So what if the image is of a duplicate Statue of Liberty in Las Vegas? We all know what it is and it took someone with a very keen eye to notice the difference that nobody else noticed.

There are two other duplicates of the Statue of Liberty in Paris, France that are older than the one in New York. One is about 8-10ft hight and in the middle of a bridge that crosses the Seine River, and the other is smaller 3-4ft and in a park. They were used as models to design the big one in New York.

The US Postal Service does not print the stamps. Since around 1894 all US Postage Stamps have been printed by the Bureau of Printing and Engraving..The same guys who print our currancy. Like all the rest of us, it seems they did not notice anything different about the Statue of Liberty either.

Remember, whereever humans are involved, mistakes will be made.

Mark,

Usually mistakes like the one you posted above are pulled from distribution, and often never make it into circulation. However, when some do get out, they become things that collectors want to own and command a premium price.

So mistakes can sometimes be a good thing...

Especially if they're done intentionally.

Mark,

It does not necessarily mean that the coins were struck intentionally, and only 5 wre made just to increase their value?? The article does not really seem to know for sure if the coins were privately made or perhaps made as early test versions done by the US Mint??

Either way, it's is interesting but since all 5 are accounted for, I won't both checking my change each day looking for a 1913 Liberty Head nickel...lol But thanks for sharing.

I saw this on the news. They showed a side by side with the real Statue of Liberty and it was very dirty and stained from weather and polution. I can see why they used the clean Vegas version.

Ok, I am just posting this to show of my stamps...

I bought a sheet of 1943 Merchant Marine 3 cent stamps as well as a block of 1945 US Coast Guard 3 cent stamps. Then I had a custom frame built for them.

Pretty happy with how it turned out...

(Pictures are not crystal clear, but you get the point)...

Kevin,

I like your stamps too...but I may have had a little too much to drink because the stamps appear blurry..:haveabeer:

Nah,,, not your drinking...

The shot is blurry.

They are behind museum glass and they are suspended in such a way they do not touch the glass or the backing behind them. So I really could not focus on the stamps themselves too well.

Maybe we should meet and discuss it over a beer?
