All,

I've seen many posts on why people don't like the 07. I'm wondering if most do or do not like the changes. If you don't like the changes, please reply to this post. I want to compare it to those who do on the following post.

I think it got some needed improvements. So far I like it, will know better when I see it in person and test drive.

Took to many things away we were use to having. I have owned a 01 and an 03. Was on my way to buying the 07.

Found out about the back window, not being able to get a locking rear axle, and about 5 other things taken away. I sold my 03 and bought a Lexus RX300 SUV.

I have owned for trucks or SUV's since 1981 and have never kept one more than 2 1/2 years. That is allot of Fords in my opinioun....

I will wait and see how the line develops in the years after this release. I was put off because of the change in the rear window, the IRS, but I am pleased with the V8. Time will tell if Ford will modify the new Trac to please the ST community.

It is too little, too late. Sure, the SportTrac needed some updates like the V-8, but they have taken away many of the good things that truck buyers look for, such as the tough axle in the rear, limited-slip. The '07 SportTrac still doesn't have a modern 4WD system or manual transmission option, and its performance will be neutered by the Stability Control System. Also, the Ridgeline has already leapfroged over the new SportTrac in terms of features and quality.

I'll keep my '03 for a while, and then will probably buy a Ridgeline in another few years.

I don't need a v8, I like the rear window, and i HATE the front end... I will be keeping my 03 for at least 2 years... Especially with the track record on the 01 and o2.... I will Waite a little..

Ford's not in the business to please us. They are in the business of pleasing as many people as possible. Out of the hundreds of thousands of Sport Trac owners out there, we are but a small minority.

I remember reading Car and Driver years ago about a certain Nissan, and how they said the car was perfect except for the anemic engine. The next year they completely changed the car, except for the engine! They sold more cars than ever.

I agree about the back window, we use it all the time. The manual trans. was an option in the early years of the Sport Trac, but few people bought it. I saw the new Sport Trac at the Houston Auto Show this last weekend, and it doesn't look bad, although I am not that fond of the big chrome front end. We'll see how it looks and feels and drives , and costs!, when they come out to the dealers.

I didn't like it at first but saw a picture of a dark blue one. It looked a lot better than the one's I have been seeing. There was a 2 page writeup in the current Truck Trend and if anyone is interested I will scan it and post here. They say the V8 is 1 second faster than the current model V6 and they like the new options. They did mention that they are not happy with the transmission and it is constantly hunting for a gear.

Translation:

Ford's not in the business of pleasing people, for if they were they would listen to this focus group as one of the most knowledgeable and vocal of all its model owner's and try to make a better product and please them at the same time. Instead, Ford is in the business of making a profit, and to do that they need to sell as many vehicles as cheaply as possible. Rather than listen to the minority of ST owners that have a voice, care about their truck and want Ford to make it better, Ford would rather focus on the silent majority that will take any old thing, and in doing so, Ford will focus on giving them exactly that: "just any old thing!"

I know that's not what YOU meant dreman, but that is how I feel!

How many MORE STs and how much MORE money could Ford make if they did listen? I guess we may never know (kinda like "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop?")

Well to buy a ford V8 right now when Gas prices are so high, compare to 2yrs ago .If the 07 is 1 SEcond diff than the present track... it dont think it worth it. I"ll bet u they'll not sell as much 07 as they did in the previous years .Buying a Ford now is  to me

I concur. If I had wanted a V8 I would have bought an F150. I think the 07 probably is a smoother riding vehicle but until they put back the working rear window I won't touch one.

Ford has taken the Sport Trac and made it a one size fits most package. To lift or lower it,

will cost a bundle. How many people here have lifted or lowered Trac's?

Changing shocks will cost a bundle too.

The 2001 to 2005 Trac's shocks were relativly cheap. About 35.00 each. The 2005 Explorer strutss are $75.00 for the rear with no listing for the front. Double the cost.

The Sport Trac was not to be looked at as a luxury SUV. It looked rugged. The new Trac looks soft. It doesn't stand out on its own.

IRS, sure it gives it a nice ride, but how functionable will it be? How much will I be able to load it down?

Jetta styling. Ford hired VVW to style it. Straight from Germany, ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Ford Jetta Sport Trac, or it is VW Explorer Sport Trac.

Since the Trac is no longer the "looks good on the road and looks good off the road" vehicle and the IRS really limits it off-road ability, they need to offer an AWD system. The 4x4 system is nice, but it is designed for something that can go off road.

No limited slip axle. IDIOTS!!!

The sliding rear window will come, it is just compliance that they don't have it yet. I won't hold that against them.

Just think, I was seriously thinking of getting one until I saw it. Oh well.

My prediction? 5 years. In 2012 Ford will drop the Sport Trac line once and for all.

The reason? Lack of sales due to "gas prices".

I'd get the SVT adrenaline, I think the '07 would do better as a sport truck than what I bought my Sport Trac for.

Some good points made in this thread. I will wait for the job 2 also.

I will probably go look at a job 1 and take it for a ride but will not think about buying until the summer and a job 2 with some kind of rebates. Hey Ford there better be some rebates!!

I hope the v-8 is not as under powered as stated above. Where did that info come from? If anyone has articles or info please post it. I'm sure we are all interested in reading it.

I like some of it..I will be keeping my '04 until at least 2011..I will have to see what it evolves into..if I was buying now I probably would not buy it...

1. Flexability, A vehichle that could take a family of 4 on a vacation with alot of baggage area, pull my boat to the lake and back, and carry a load of mulch for a new flower bead.

2. V6, The right size engine with good torque and umph to provide reasonable power when needed and cruse on hwy without feeling like I'm beating it to death. But also with a somewhat reasonable fuel milege.

3. Style, Even though it shares comon styling with the explorer sport many people have comented that they like my truck. Then shortly after ask what kind of truck is it. And because of its somewhat diffrent look it stands out a little, not like a red lambo or big foot (the truck) but definately not the run of the mill box.

4 Price, I dont think I really need to explain this. Compaire it to a comperably equiped F150

Thise are some reasons I bought mine and don't feel that most of these exist in the new 07 model. Sorry but next truck will probaly be ranger as the young un's are growing up and will begin to leave the nest in a few more years.

Walter,

Exactly the way I feel. The Trac looks like a truck, but most people looking at it knows it is an SUV with a bed on the back.

I had an Amish guy comment on my Trac. His words were, "looks like an Explorer, but has a handy truck bed".
