I was wondering when this was going to happen!

I don't know where, but I got my first door ding the other day. Right in the center of the driver's door. Two small paint chips with no dent. Good thing for them I didn't catch them. I try to park away from others but I guess it was inevitable. Some people just are just idiots when they park next to a shiny car. Ordered my touch up pen last night. Anyway, just venting, Gary D. in CT

I feel your pain. Only had mine a few months, had the tailgate down with the extender to carry a ladder, and backed over a reflector that I couldn't see at the end of somebody's driveway. Gashed the upper left corner of the tailgate. Oh well.

Trying to be the voice of civility, but it might have been an accident Gary D. Got a nice door hit on my ST from an elderly obese lady trying to get out of her car, leaning heavily against her door as she tried to get out of her car. I witnessed the whole thing,

I too used to think things like "if I only saw them do it, man would I go off on them". Then that incident happened.

All I did was get in the ST and move it so as not to get hit again when she left. I just couldn't see how "going off" on her would have helped.

It does suck though, I admit. But sometimes people don't know they did it, or often it's a little kid swinging a door open, even though he or she has been told 1000 times by their parent to WAIT for them to open the doors.

Accidents happen, and YES, some people are careless.

I have a chip on one door strip to touch up too!

Gary, you forgot about the scratch I put in it with the screw driver when i was fixing your corner light...

that sucks !

it seems no matter how far you park, someone has to come and " snuggle " up right next to you !

Unfortunately it is bound to happen. It does disappoint you when it does happen though.

I feel your anger. But not much you can do about it...

Gary,

Two weeks ago I utilized the Dent Wizard who took care of a couple of dings using the paintless dent removal system. (One of dings was golf ball size). He did the work in the parking lot where I work. One hour later and $150, the sheetmetal was perfect.

Like most members here, who care about their vehicles, I'm also a fanatic about "defensive parking". However, we sometimes have no control over the inconsiderate ****s who just don't give a damn. I hated spending the money, but I'm happy that once again, my ST is dingless.

That really sucks Gary! :( I park out in the south 40 of parking lots too, and so far so good. I hope you ordered that autovisuals paint pen, you will be very happy with it. -Heather

I try my best not to park next to other cars. However, not always the easiest to do when your parked out in the middle of no way and someone has to park next to you with a junk car. Or, when I'm in Seattle I don't have the luxury of parking with no cars around me.

Now what I have noticed is paint peeling on the step bars. And, it's actually caused by people opening their doors and hitting the step bar instead of the actual door area. I guess a benefit of having the TT/Shackle lift and larger tires...LOL

I'll end up replacing the step bars with stainless steel ones in the spring.

Thanks,

SST

The creeps hunt you down, I swear. Had mine two weeks to the day when some idiot managed to back into the tailgate when it was down....and it was parked way away from anyone else.

Got mine in Sept. When snow flew some *&^%$# hit my rear quarter panal at some store, too off (natch) and when I eventually saw the damaage I was less than happy.

I replaced the wheel liner as it was torn and seperated. By all rights the panal, bumper (buckled) and the liner should have been replaced. Had I caught the idiot they all would have been.

Over a year since that happened but i still burn when i think of it. :(

I may have shared this before, but not every ding is an accident.

In 2001, I hit a deer with my old Explorer. It impacted in the right front and swung it around into the side, denting the front quarter panel and front passenger door. Before it was repaired, whenever the front door would open, it'd make a clunk sound.

As I got into my driver's door and my girlfriend into the passenger side, she pulled the door closed, and it clunked. The owner of the vehicle next to me, some stranger with his significant other, thought the clunk was my girlfriend's door hitting his piece of . . . S-10. So, we we were getting ready to pull out, he opened his door forcefully into my the passenger side door. I immediately slammed on my brakes. I wanted to get out of the vehicle and lay him out. Had my girlfriend not been with me, there would have been some type of confrontation. Unfortunately, she didn't convince me otherwise, but I also did not want to make a scene in her presence. The ding was repaired when the entire front and front right was repaired, but it still makes me angry to this day.

Long story short - for as much accidental damage that occurs, there is far more carelessness and maliciousness.

My advice? Find the nicest car in any lot and park next to it. They won't hit you, and you won't hit them.

I had my '02 Ranger for all of a month, backed out of the parking space at a bar and straight into a utility pole right behind me. I was looking left and right for traffic, the pole served no obvious purpose other than for people to back into it. Big dent in the bumper and it still had new truck smell. I put a bumper sticker over the dent. Only had two beers too.

Eventually I put on a new bumper.

My Trac has door dings on both sides. It sucks, but that is the live of a daily driver.

What really ticks me off is that my employer's parking garage (and most all parking lots) have the smallest possible parking places to maximize parking. I think that the very tight parking places is a big contributor to getting door dings. If they would just reduce their number of spaces by 2% and make the remaining spaces bigger, there would not be nearly as many door dings.

Of course, I put one in it myself when I was cleaning out the Liberty in my garage... :(
