I am going car shopping this weekend to try to find a 4cyl 5-speed that gets 30+ MPG. Trying to get a Honda since they run forever. Don't worry I'm keeping the Trac, it will just get to rest during the week.
Bama: How about a Toyota Matrix? 30mpg city, 38mpg hwy on 87 octane. Has 4cyl Corolla engine. 5 speed manual. Owned mine for 2.5 years now without a bit of trouble. As much interior room as a ST, just minus an open cargo area.
I'm still laughing at the Insights. There are conventional vehicles out there that get the same or better mileage, such as one of the VW diesels, or even your average Corolla. The mileage on the hybrids in normal use is not as good as they claim it is. And I don't want to get in a wreck with 100 gallons of battery acid around me.
I traded for the Mercedes a week ago today. Its supposed to get 30+ on the hwy. I've went 230 miles on half a tank (16.2 gal tank). I'm gonna get a lil truck to beat around in. I've enjoyed it so far. It has a 1.8 supercharged 4 cyl. Its a fast lil rocket for a 4. I had a feeling gas was gonna skyrocket, but not this fast-lol
