Hey, that'sm really neat ! So many monitors, I'll bet it's hard to figure out which channel to watch...:bwahaha:

I am suprised that the pilot/copilot seats appear to be some kind of fold down seat which appears to be very uncomfortable. I can only assume that these seats are not used when the schuttle was launched, since I don't see any more seats for the rest of the crew??? I suspect this cockpit is only used for manuvering in space? The seats used during launch and landing are probably in a self-contained cabin behind or below this cabin.

Pretty cool Gary! Couldn't imagine having to "work" all that stuff. :eek:nline:

Rich, the seats are as they appear' don't fold up. Some of the blue cushions can be seen at the bottom of the rear bulkhead. The rest of the crew is on the deck below the cockpit. The rear bulkhead is where the robotic arm is controled from. Wonder if one of the shuttles will end up in the Smithsonian? Or on the deck of the Intrepid in New York? Be cool to go inside. Bob

Bob C,

If you move the view downward and view the full left seat (driver's seat?) it clearly shows two 45 degree angle braces which I can only guess that it allows the seat to fold up. If the seats did not fold, those braces would not be necessary, and any extra weight cost more to launch.

Rich, I am so sorry. I didn't see the L-R, U-D and zoom buttons the first time! :banghead: You are absolutely right, I now see the "tracks" that those struts must move up and down in. I feel kinda dumb right now. :smack: Thanks for pointing it out. Apologies, Bob

Bob C,

You do not need to be sorry. I know the first time I viewed the video I did not see the L-R, U-D controls at the bottom of the screen, and they were kind of transparent...almost like ghost images..

I can't imagine that they use those fold-down seats during the launch because of the high G-forces during launch. My guess is the entire crew sits in the room below which I think is a complete escape module that can be blown clear of the main shuttle should they loose control. I don't think it works for explosions during launch, or burning up during reentry as we seen in the two shuttle disasters.
