My 4x4 works 60% of the time. The 40% is when I actually need it to work. IE Pulling my boat, off roading, snow ect. ect. ect.

Anyway...... the other day my 4x4 wouldn't come on while the truck was on an incline at the boat ramp. I had to call my buddy to pull me out, and as soon as the truck was on level ground 4x4 started working. I run my 4x4 weekly just to keep parts moving, and this has happened alot. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. It usually works better when the truck is cold. Where to start? Motor, Switch, Module? Everytime I get ready to have someone look at this problem, the 4x4 works.

I know people have replaced the motor, and there was some thing with the fork in the t-case.

IF it does not work, try lightly tapping the motor and if it then works, the motor is the problem... I would engage it BEFORE you go on the boat ramps and leave it on to be safe...

Tapping didn't work...........

Also, I ran a tester on my switch. Nothing was hot while engaged, and off. Should the switch have constant power?

you will have to replace the 4x4 control moduale located rt side kick panel. it controls the 4x4 it is a comman problem. the Ford replacement part number is 1L5z-7E53-AC the new part will have -AE at the end, @ ford it cost $176. or if you get a discount $148.

i had same problem being intermittent then it just quit, the ford parts guy told me that they been seeing this problem with expoloers and ranger 4x4 and they keep this moduale on hand.
