Poor man's FiOS here.

What speedtest are we all using? Unless we all post from the same place, with results in the same format, this is pretty meaningless.

Geez Gavin, your ISP could be the definition for "Capricious" in the dictionary. Do you have cable?

Where I got mine from:.........................................................side note: I just talked to my ISP and I'm on a 3mbps service now and I can bump up to 6mbps for $5 more a month. I wonder if it will make a difference. Cost 5 bucks to try, so why not............................

why are uploads sooo much slower than downloads?

I have always been told these are the reasons.

1, You download more than you upload.

2, It is harder to host from a home PC if the uploads are slow.

Comcast. Usually it hits around 20.2-22.4, but being cable and Saturday night, it's slower tonight.

Q: Why are uploads slower than downloads?

A: That's by design. As Caymen said, it is a fact that most users download an overwhelming amount more data than they upload. For that reason cable modems are asymmetric; meaning they are specially designed to have more bandwidth available for download than for upload.
