thankfully he wasnt killed on the spot, its amazing that the cab of the

pickup didnt fully crush.

tell him to listen to the therapist once he starts rehabbing no matter

how bad it hurts and he will be driving that ST in no time.

Everyone, thanks again for the huge outpouring of concern for my dad. I really appreciate it. Talking to my step-mom, we're both under the agreement that between her connections and mine, there is one huge network of folks spread out through North America that are praying and hoping for the best.

And, it's working. Speaking to my step-mom, daily, she said that Dad is starting to look better. He was quite swollen when they put him on a lot of fluids last week but now he's looking normal again. The burn center said that it appears he may not need skin grafts and that he would heal on his own. He is in a normal bed, head elevated and they are keeping him on his sides to keep pneumonia from being a problem. He keeps cycling between a 103 fever and normal but all vitals are great. They are monitoring everything that goes in and comes out of him and then reevaluate the treatments. They are weaning him off his medication, including the sedation drug Atavan, and he's starting to move around and grunt when people touch him. He's still intubated, on a respirator to control breathing while sedated, but they are saying he's doing really well. He may come out of sedation later this week and I'm hoping to communicate with him when I see him again this weekend.

You can count on me sharing all the well wishes with him when I see him again. Especially from those that met him, or those that can relate to him, or both. I know that he's proud to be part of this community and will be quite surprised to know that everyone posted to express their concerns for him.

Thank you all, again. I will be back with updates as he improves!

That is great news! We are so glad to hear your dad is doing better. As Rodger says, please keep us posted on his progress, we will keep praying for a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the bump Gary. I needed to get on here an post an update but have been quite busy.

Dad came down with an infection in the burn on his one hip but that was treated and he received some grafted skin from a donor. He has a normal temperature now. He did have an influenza bug but that was treated with antibiotics. He is going in for more graft surgery but most of his burns are healing on his own, which is good.

There has been no work on his broken femur because they need good skin in the area of the incision. During an X-ray they noticed that he has a fracture on the other side, in his pelvis, the acetabulum, which may heal on its own. That's the socket part of the hip joint. He is still in traction for the femur fracture, but due to limited movement, he had a clot in that leg, which is being treated. They may have to install a filter if it gets too big.

He's still sedated and intubated. They don't want to bring him out until the burns can be repaired. He still moves around a little, opens his eyes and grunts when people work on him. I'm sure he wants out of there really bad!

I'm heading up to visit him this weekend along with my step-mom. I also have to trim the grass around the house. Thanks for everyone's concern and for spreading the word. I appreciate it!

Burns are a very painful part of the healing process. I am sure he wants out of there but to be awake during that part of the burn healing process is ruff....

Sounds like he a very strong man...

Still wishing he best for him and your family.

As everyone has said, glad he is doing ok and hope that he heals very fast.

WOW is all I can say about the truck He's a very lucky man!

Thanks folks. He's still sedated and now has a tracheotomy tube. Burns are healing and he's looking better. They want to make sure he's in good shape before orthapedic surgery, still...

A friend of mine brought today's Baltimore Examiner in this morning and showed me this advertisement. I had to scan it when I got home. Ironic, huh?

This week, I spoke to dad on the phone and he said he's glad to be alive! He is out of sedation for the first time! They have been working with him to get him to be able to speak with the tracheotomy that they had to put in while he was sedated. He wants to go back to work. He knows he's been out of it for a month and that he was burned. He does remember the accident. His back hurts him where he was chemically burned but the broken leg doesn't bother him that much.

A doctor explained he is in some pain but they only thing they can do is manage that with a pain patch and other meds, but it should be a dull pain because of the bone fragments in his hip. They didn't indicate when he's going to have the hip replaced. They want to keep the tracheotomy in until the surgery. There were no other updates on his condition, but because we spoke for the first time since 8/1, I feel so much better. Also, to know that he wants to get back on his feet and let the doctors work on him, which is good.

That's all for now. It will be good to see him while he is on the road to recovery. Thanks to all who have been sending their well-wishes. I appreciate it. I'll be visiting him this weekend.

Pat, I am glad that he is recovering fine. Hopefully we will be able to see him at the next national._Ron
