Before I toss a 50 gallon drum of kerosene onto the political bonfire, I was just wondering if anyone else watched (Minister?) Louis Farrakhan's openly racist and offensive speech on the Washington Monument Lawn today? I don't see how anyone who isn't black or who has some sense of self-preservation wouldn't perceive it as an openly anti-white and treasonous war rally.

He especially discredited the black man serving in the War on Terror and wants to hold our generation (whites) responsible for slavery ( i.e....wants us to pay for "reparations" to descendants of former slaves). Just another reason why the "Nation" of Islam is a shade-tree terrorist organization and poses a serious threat to every white middle-class working American's way of life and finances.

I'd like to know if anyone else watched and what their thoughts are.

DD:angry:

It is people like him that have kept the racist fires burning, more than any everyday folks that work and congregate together. The job I was layed off from after 36yrs, was almost 50/50 white and black. Most of the 99% of the blacks couldnt stand Farakan.

I see farakan and those that follow the hatred from his mouth and those like him in my own town,,They are the Black KKK. I have no use for either of thier hatreds..

It is AMAZING that so many blacks let people like Farrakhan, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Charley Rangle and the such speak for them when there are so many others that could better represent them. The above referenced individuals hurt, not help, their cause. These people think that racism is only an attribute of some whites and could never be associated with blacks. It's amazing how so few can screw it up for so many IMO.

People like Farrakhan are doing more to HURT racial equality in this country than they are to help. Did you folks hear that Farrakhan said that the government had actually put bombs below the levees so that they would break and flood the poor, black neighborhoods after Katrina? I was absolutely dumbfounded when I heard him say that. I've heard him say some downright IGNORANT things over the past few years, but that pretty much takes the cake. Some people just don't DESERVE freedom of speech.

If you read over the transcripts of some of his past speeches and comments, he's a blatant racist. Of course he will never be considered "racist" because he's black, which kinda goes back to what Mike C said about racism.

If there were fewer farrakhans and more Bill Cosby and Barak Obama -like people, I don't think we'd have nearly as many racial problems as we do today. Farrakhan is driving a wedge between races, not helping to blur the line.

These are just my opinions though, I might be wrong. hehe

It's all a crock of crap. They spew nothing but racism out and just keep adding fuel to the fires. If you saw any of the C-SPAN airing of Hurricane Katrina and ther effects on the Black people yesterday, you were most probably as dumbfounded as I was. I can't quote the names, but some comments I do remember were about how the white man (from the government all the way down to the lowest person in the USA) has a secret agenda to exterminate the black race, the blacks are subject to "subtle suicide" the Levees were blown up intentionally, we poison their food supply and water to kill them off, just tons of other absolutely ridiculous stuff including how the fight for reperations continues and they won't stop til they get their money. My question is what money???, I wasn't around when their ancenstors sold them off as slaves, nor is anybody else on the face of this planet still alive that was around back then.

I for one think the political correctness in this country has caused alot of this. When the number of children you have is directly related to how much money the government will give you, it has gone way too far. We wan't to think we are helping those that can't help themselves, but that has caused people to think the help that they have been receiving is a riight not an extra.

Get rid of the Affirmative Action Plan and let companies hire the "Best" man for the job, whether it be a hispanic, black, caucasian or any other race, he who is best qualified should get the job, not somebody lesser qualified, but still gets the job based on their skin color. Abolish the Black Caucaus, the NAACP, and any other orginization that tries to seperate themselves from the US population based upon their race. There is so much wrong with all of this, for instance if some people decided to get together and create a Miss White America contest, can you imagine the turmoil that would generate.

Stop the welfare, the handouts, and un-employeement benefits for those that are lifelong dependent upon it. If they are making no attempt to better themselves with all the education and job training help out there, let them figure out how to survive themselves and quit making us taxpayers foot the bill.

Last rant..... another thing completly wrong because of political correctness is the term "African-American", there is no such thing, either you are African or you are an American. I would imagine over 95% of the Black people in this country have never been to Africa, but they are still Americans, I don't see how they are called African-Americans.

TOM! If your 'Trac hadn't been at the bottom of that post with your name, I'd have SWORN that I wrote that! I say those same things ALL THE TIME! I agree with all of that 100%. There is a HUGE double standard when it comes to whites and blacks.

I agree that slavery was a horrible thing, something that NOBODY deserves to be subjected to, regardless of race/religion/creed/etc.! However, reparations are probably one of the top 10 most ignorant things I've heard of. It's positively INSANE to think that you are entitled to something because your ancestors were treated unfairly (to put it mildly). Lots of bad things have happened to a lot of people, but that doesn't ENTITLE you to money.

African American...hmph. Ya know what? My family's heritage is irish, but do I consider myself irish-american? NOPE! I'm a good ol', red-blooded AMERICAN! No better or any worse than any other American. I don't feel the need to separate myself from others with the usage of a special title. Words like "african-american" do more to DIVIDE this country than it does to make it a better place.

Ebonics is another HUGE problem as far as I see it. You WILL NOT be successful in this country speaking ebonics. Proper english is one of the most important things that a person of ANY race can learn. The fact that someone actually mentioned TEACHING ebonics sent me into a rage. Black people think that "the white man" is trying to keep them down, but in reality, they're keeping themselves down with stupid ideas like "ebonics", special titles, asking for money from the government becuase their ancestors were slaves and allowing people like Farrakhan to speak on their behalf. It's probably significantly more difficult to be a black person in this country, even today there is still discrimination. However, at some point you're going to have to buck up and take responsibility for your own actions. Personal responsibility seems to have gotten lost in the race toward political correctness...and that could very possibly be the downfall of this country.

Notice how Farrakhan was behind a huge sheet of bullet proof glass when he spoke? Obviously, he trusts his 'followers' no better.

As to reperations; do we pay the blacks that owned slaves in the U.S. or are they excluded even though they were once slaves before being liberated? Slavery, although horrible, has existed in Africa (Egypt, as well as Southern tribes)), Europe (Rome and Greece) as well as others. I'm tire to put a guilt trip on us as if we were the only ones that ever did it. Blacks would sell their slave captives to the Dutch who traded with the U.S. Well lets yell at the blacks and the Dutch also. The whole thing is to propagate racism. ENOUGH already! Being an American of Italian heritage I can assure you that non of my ancesters owned slaves. Can the same be said about some of the American blacks that earned their freedom and turned around to acquire slaves of their own. ENOUGH!!

I agree. It's time blacks quit blaming the whites for all their problems and get on with their lives. Hell, what the blacks were subjected to was nothing compared to what the whites did the native american indians. If we are going to give reparation to anyone, they should come first.

I don't know any educated black person that doesn't think Farrakhan is a big joke. His only listeners are the ignorant poor. Just like the only whites that are involved with groups like the KKK. They are all just trailer-trash and don't have enough brains to think for themselves.

You better believe that sooner or later the reparations movement will find a willing judge. When it looks like there is a case that is actualy going to make it to a verdict, that is when we will see what some of the folks behind this actually want. It is not going to be a cash award to every person who can prove they are an ancestor of a slave. However, there will be college grants and massive expenditures of tax money into low or no interest mortgages, tax credits, and similar areas. One of the proposals by a black columnist that has been syndicated in the Birmingham News is allowing blacks to donate their tax dollars to a charity organization of their choosing.

Kind of funny, but I don't see the complaints about the parades that are held in cities celebrating Italian heritage on Columbus Day or Irish heritage on St. Patrick's Day.... I know. That's different. Somehow.

Wally, the difference is that the parades you speak of are to celebrate something. It would be similar if the ancestors of slaves held parades to celebrate the freeing of the slaves. Heck even parades cause trouble too. I remember here a few years ago there was a major clash of opinions because Orlando allows 'Gay Days' downtown complete with rainbow flags from the light poles and a parade. The KKK asked for the same right, to have a parade to celebrate "their white heritage", and they were denied. The argument? Why can the gay community celebrate their beliefs with the city's approval and not the KKK? I don't know the answer, nor do I choose to support anyone's cause but my own. Let the relatives of slaves have their reparations, but I better damn well get mine for being a descendent of an American Indian tribe that was wiped out. I think I'm entitled to at least an acre of their former land here in FL, but I'm not going to hold my breath.....

Why do RELATIVES of slaves deserve reparations?

I say that if they are given anything, it be a one-way ticket back to Africa. That would be the only fair thing to offer.

There are many people who make a living by exploiting anything that can be, even remotely, to racism. If it were not for these events that make their agenda more public ( with the assistance of the news media ), how would they make a living. Would they be there if there was not a huge media to make their appeal more public and/or dramatic ??? Where are these same people during normal times. I would guess that they make their speeches and collect their "appearance money", then move on to their next speech to keep their income coming in.

Isn't it better when there is a public outcry for how "any person" is not treated as a human being; than to narrow it down to a race.

I don't understand why anyone picked this forumn for this crap . I've read enough depressing stuff about my truck , I really don't need this ! Doe's Chevrolet have a forumn ?

johowo, there is an option to turn off "off topic" subjects. I suggest you do it if this depresses you so much.

Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al are nothing but race-baiting pimps and media/publicity whores. They go anywhere they can to attempt to create an issue and get free publicity. I'm sure Dr. King would be ashamed of his former protege Jesse Jackson if he could see him today. He abandoned Dr. King's dream and vision for power, corruption, and money years ago.

They all act as if the entire concept of slavery only began about 400 years ago and was started by evil white men in America. The fact is, if they want reparations, they should be going after the descendants of the African chieftans who sold their fellow Africans to the European slave traders to begin with! Slavery has been going on for millenia. Up until about 150 years ago, when one nation, tribe, or other group defeated another, the victors usually enslaved the losers.

If any particular nation owes reparations, I say it's Italy. At one point, the Roman Empire encompassed almost all of Europe, the Middle East, and a great portion of North Africa. The Romans (Italians) enslaved people from all of those regions. And since most of us are decended from those regions as well, I say it's time for the Italians to pay up!;)

This has turned into a very interesting thread.

I would like to hear a black person's views on this all. Do we have any black members?

I work with a black guy, who is well read, affluent and extraordinarily intelligent. He thinks that reparations are an absolute JOKE. Of course he also believes that Farrakhan is racist and believes pretty much the same things I do...that if all the race-baiters out there would just GO AWAY, things would get much better.

As for the italians paying up...that's about as likely as Farrakhan shutting his pie hole. haha

I'd MUCH rather see "reparations" go to the american indians. We truly DID take something from them! As for black reparations, if that happens it will be a very very sad day in America.
