Any of you Mustang owners with a 05 or newer vehicle had any trouble with corrosion in the seams of the aluminum hood. From what I read it's a real problem that Ford will not cover after the 36/36 warranty is done. I have it on my 2010 and Ford will repair but not replace the hood. Word on other blogs is that they will just keep repairing until warranty is done.

If they fix the same problem three times, the lemon law applies. At least in Ohio it works that way.

In Florida it has to be within two years of purchase, a Substantial Defect, or out of service for 18 months. With this problem not showing up quickly (sometimes two to three years) and Fords ability to easily draw it out by temporary repairs for a two year period, one is going to be hard pressed to use the law here. In my case it showed up in a year.

Ford has issued a TSB on the problem. Repairs are lasting from a month to a couple of years. After the 36/36 Ford will have nothing to do with the problem despite a repair under warranty. Sometimes they will replace the hood completely. In my case they are going to sandblast the whole hood, treat it, then repaint.

Anyone with a Mustang within this time frame should check the seam under the hood. People are finding new vehicles on the lots with the problem.

I've had rust in the seams of every Ford I've owned. Sometimes soon enough to fix on the 3/36 warranty.

Robert, Thanks for Posting. My sister and brother in law just purchased a leftover new 2010 Mustang GT in March. I called them and they will look it over and keep an eye on it. Dave

I suspect if it is corrosion at the seams of the aluminum hood, it might be caused by a weld that introduced a dissimilar metal to the seam. There will tend to always be corrosion when two dissimilar metals are brought in contact. If this is the root cause of the problem then the only real remedy is a replaced hood that doesn't have that seam issue (assuming Ford has learned from this fabrication mistake, again, if that is the root cause).

Caymen is right on the lemon law. If you can show documented prove of three failed repairs within the period that lemon laws in your state apply (often 3 years), and you are still within that period (again, 3 years), then the Lemon Law can kick in.

But, since we are talking about and '05 and it is now '11, I don't think you can go back and get things fixed/replaced/compensated for on the lemon law statutes... a lemon law attorney would look at your case though, for free, usually.l

Most of it starts in the fold under the hood and the creeps to top. My problem is that this has been happening since 05 and new 2010's still have the problem. Why don't they just fix it.

Main reason for the post is to get everyone with a aluminum hood to check before they are out of warranty. After the warranty Ford will not fix the problem. Many are having to buy aftermarket hoods.
