After a year in sevice. My Screaman Deamon Coil, started misfiring at startup today.

I remembered others having this. First thing I did was put the oem coil back on it.

Never set a code for which cylinder. Turned around and came back home, after half a block.

Thanks to the members that posted their coil problems. Helped me go the right direction, first time. It was running as if bad gas. But I fueled it over a week ago

Yep, I went through two of them. After the second one, I re-installed the OEM coil and haven't had a problem since then. Still have the PD Livewires, but I'll stick with the OEM coil from now on.

I've shared my bad experiences regarding the SD coil pack with 4.0L V6 Mustang owners on various Mustang forums too. PD really needs to improve this product before I'll ever consider one from them again.

Yeah I had a bad one from the get-go but returned it for a refund, installed the factory one and haven't had any problems since. I still have the Live Wires installed with zero problems so far.

This is almost an amusing issue. Seems as tho we have had similar issues in the SHO world too. Found out that no aftermarket "high-performance" coil is better than the stock one. GLad to see we can pay more money for a different color and get less performance.

1) I agree PD has a quality issue

2) My sd and plenty others have zero issues

3) others have had issues

4) I tell ALL my customers the PD coil makes ZERO HP.... only changes plug gap and exhaust note at higher RPM.

5) Ed left out 1 small detail as where he bought the coil, Not saying thats the reason, But if its aired on a forum, I like the complete story.

I'm glad this was posted. Reaper was selling his SD coil but I was a little leery of buying it only 'cause I swear I had heard something about misfiring before. I guess I did as this story just came up. I guess i'll just replace the wires instead. :supercool:

Ok complete story. Which is not nescessary with a qaulity & reliabilty issue.

The coil was used by another member. He had it for 4 months. Totaled his Trac. I used it 13months.

I knew that. Iwanted the hotter spark for best burn. I run performance tunes with my xcal3.

Im not a dummy in this area. I ran crane cams coils and multi sparks on my stang and t-bird. No HP increase just a cleaner burn from the enriched tunes.

17 months service does suck. I will not recomend this coil or the company of performance distributors to any of my freinds.

I think I will drag it behind my Trac. I bet it will last longer than 17 months.

Does it really make a difference that it was used 4 months before I bought it. Never lost an oem or performance epoxy coil in my life. Old oil filled, yes.

Sheesh, defensiveness. I would have posted the same about it. No matter who sells them.

Im definitly not the first.

Yep, I went through two of them. After the second one, I re-installed the OEM coil

Remebering TT's post is what made me check that first.

Dang now Im getting defensive.......:cheeky::rofl:

Ed,

I also replied to your email....

and my reason for stating the info thing is ask K&N, MAC, JEGS, keystone, any manufacturer to warrenty a part that was installed on 2 vehicles and 1 was a Wreck and see what happens.....

Thats my point....

I am trying to work with you.....

Rodger, The funny thing is George and i both bought Accells in the beginning, and Both Crapped out !!..... IT seems like a crap shoot now a days......

Thats why we are really only selling the things we trust in anymore...... Its not worth the problems..

Like Billy Joel said, "You get more mileage from a cheap pair of speakers." Same applies to coils, especially OEM ones.

I am still confused why people still think that the coil dictates spark plug firing voltage. the voltage is dictated by cylinder pressure, mixture, temperature and plug gap and the pcm controls dwell of the coil so simply bolting on a different coil has absolutely no affect unless the coil is weak to begin with.

In over 2 years I've had no issues with my Screamin' Demon coil, and I hope I never will. I don't see how the thing can really break, it's just a lot of wire wrapped around some metal in a box. Though I'll admit that since I've been going on some extended drives lately, I carry my OEM coil in the Trac with me at all times. Just another reason I wish there were more cabin space in the ST (cabin space which didn't affect seating capacity as I regularly have 3-4 people in the Trac.)

I am still confused why people still think that the coil dictates spark plug firing voltage.

I understand that the voltage required to "bridge the gap" on the spark plug depends on the conditions of the atmosphere inside the cylinder at combustion, as you say. The coil clearly dictates the amperage & voltage of the electricity which is dispatched to the spark plug, and I bought my coil on the idea that a "high performance" coil would transform & transmit the required electricity more efficiently, an idea bolstered by Todd Z's claim that there was a clear difference in performance @ high RPM with the new coil. That's the same reason I bought the wires (package deal). That, and it was a rare MyST group buy and I decided to support the site and get a cool new trac part. Even if the part does nothing better than the OEM, contrary to Todd Z's testimony, I don't mind as it works & it supported the site which has kept my trac running for 4 years now.

I Dont remember the change in numbers numbers, but. The crane cams coil and multi spark box, did dyno better at higher rpms than oem.

It was a '94 gt with a built up 302cui cobra motor. Naturaly asperated 476hp/401tq @ RW's. Was the end results. I need to find my slips to verify. Sold the 'stang 5yrs ago. Might have gave them to the buyer.

He rolled and totaled it in a ditch, 4months latter. Wish I had the motor for the trac. The 302 will shoe in.
