I’m hearing a switch relay ticking under the dash when I depress and let off the brake pedal while backing up. I also don’t have to push the brake pedal while starting the engine. The neutral safety switch only allows a start in P or N position. Any ideas?

I’m supposing the brake light switch but the brake lights are working.

or the release of the shifter lock while pressing the brake pedal to allow trans shift at shifter

Other than the relay click, that's all the normal way it works. There is no requirement to press the brake to start the truck.
It should NOT start in another position than P or N.
