I have a 2002 Sport Trac 2WD and I need to replace the rotors and shocks. I just do normal driving to and from work and around town. Any suggestions on what type rotors and shocks I should go with. I would prefer to stay away from anything made in China.

Thanks

For shocks I suggest Monroe Sensa-Tracs. Just put them on my '05 2 wheel drive. Great ride and dramatic imrpovement over the OE shocks.

Dont waste your money on custom rotors. Unless you intend to oval track your trac.

Wagners are good rotors. Some of your store brand low price rotors, are cast in china.

Pads will depend on your service. I have performance friction pads. They do dust some. They are carbon metalic. The warmer they get the better the stoping power. They are $80 to $90 for the fronts.

Do a search there is a ton of info on all you ask.

I like NAPA's Ultra Premium rotors although in your case they might be overkill. About $75 each, IIRC every time I've got them for our cars they were made in Canada.

Like Eddie said, many rotors are cast in China. The problem is that you cannot tell which brands are made in China.

Also, consider that many of the companies that claim their rotors are made in the USA, etc are actually buying the rough cast rotor blanks from China (they are cheaper), and they may drill the holes for the studs or machining the surfaces to their final thickness and finish, etc and then claim they are made in the USA ??? The blanks cast in China are made to the US company's exact specs and the good companies will quality test the Rotors to insure they meet their standards, but never the less, they are made in China.

A few weeks ago on Jay Leno's Tonight Show he was showing some odd/funny products or packaging. He showed a package of some inexpensive toy that said on the package: "Made in America", but the toy was clearly stamped "Made in China" Perhaps the packaging was made in America???

Rich is right. I and freinds have found that the low priced store branded rotors were the worst. Some even have china stamped on them.

A few year back. Advance first opened in my area. I shoped for rotors for an '01 escape. The cheap store brand was half the price. I fliped on over it said made in china.

In the comparison to their raybestos the face to face thickness was the same. The braking surface was thiner as was the cooling vanes. I passed and bought wagners else where.

Might be different now IDK...

Focus on BRAND, not place of manufacturing. Federal-Mogul (Wagner) makes rotors in China to high-standards, as do most premium line companies (Raybestos, Bosch, etc). Performance Friction rotors ARE US made, so if that is your most important concern, this is your best option.

Not to start a different conversation, but it's increasingly hard to find US manufactured parts. Pricing pressures on manufacturers have forced overseas production. Discount offshore brands may or may not meet OE standards. Inspect what you're buying and buy from a known supplier. At least a brick and mortar parts store that will be there if there are warranty concerns.

Just my 2 cents, feel free to ask for a refund...:back2topic:
