OK ive been told that puttin 265/75/16's on my ST will not hurt it. And ive also been told that the TT/Shackle lift wont hurt it either. So im gonna go for the TT lift and hope my parents think the bigger tires are what lifted it. My next problem is, i live in Raleigh North Carolina and have trouble finding a shop that does this kinda stuff. Im not confident enough to do it myself nor do i have and tools or a place to do it. I called a few shops and got the same reply of we dont do that kinda stuff here. Any ideas, what kinda shop would? anyone know of a place.

Why hide it from your parents? just be honest...

As a dad with a 23, 22, and a 19yo, i would rather know what they have done to their vehicles so I can at least make sure it is safe. It's only an issue now with my 19yo daughter, the boys own their own vehicles.

I'm sure yours want the same.

There are folks on here that will chime in on how easy it is to accomplish...

the guy at my garage (who I trust with my vehicle like I trust myself) said that if i start muckin around with a TT/Shackle lift I could eventually run into some problems with the Ubolts etc which would cause my truck to become less dependable, which is why i got rid of my '91 ranger in the first place.

What do you guys think about that?

What is the Ubolt are you refering to? The only Ubolt I know of has nothing to do with the TT/Shackle lift.

Tom

Doesn't the Ranger have a spring-over-axle design, instead of the spring-under-axle design the Sport Trac's have? That means the easiest way to lift the truck is with lifting blocks between the spring and axle, with the U-BOLTS tying them together. The same blocks actually LOWER our trucks.

clay you dont even crank the torsion bars or put shackles on to get the 265's on.... but with a 4x4 just make sure you don't raise the front anymore than a 1.5 inch.

 well im not entirely concerned about the Ranger, and YES it is spring over axle like you mentioned.

I'm referring to the same Ubolt as you Tom, but im not exactly "experienced" underneath my trac, so I'm a bit apprehensive that by messing with shackles it could effect other parts

Lifting a Ranger with blocks puts space between the spring and the axle, and can put more stress on the u-bolts. Shackles go on the end of the spring, and do not affect the u-bolts at all.

yea thats what I thought and was about 98% sure of until I was told not to mess around with my truck by my mechanic...pff - he's probably just sick of seeing hack jobs done on nice vehicles;).

As far as I know, the only mishap that can occur with a TT/Shackle Lift is if you tighten the Torsion bolt too much, you risk damage to the 4x4 components. Are there any other risks that Clay and myself should be aware of before undertaking this project?

you should be able to put the 265s on without doing the lift

at all as i did that and had no rubbing of any kind.

the shackles will take you about 1 hour for both sides with

simple hand tools and a can of pb blaster, i started spraying

the bolts about 4 days before i did the shackles.

the torsion twist i have not done yet as i ran out of warm weather

here in NJ and dont relish the thought of laying on the cold ground.

i did buy the longer bolts from zabtech for when i get around to it

so i wont have to do it later on in case of the dreaded sag.

as it stands im 37" from ground to wheel well opening rear

and 35" from ground to wheel well opening on front.

The torsion twist anly requires a jack and 13mm socket. Should take about 10 minutes to do the front. The rear shackles are very easy to only need a jack and basic hand tools.

I have 265/75/R16's (REVOs) on my 2001 Sport Trac with 138,000 miles. They are my second set, no lift or TT. I agree with the above, don't try to hide it.

Tommy

i read on the site here that after a while some of the

trucks will sag on one side or the other and that you run out

of adjustment with the stock bolt.

zabteck sells the longer bolts and im a "while im at it kind of person"

and for $10 they are worth swapping out now as far as im concerned

so i wont have to do it down the road.
