Gary G,

Imagine eliminating the IRS. Imagine only paying tax's on what you spend, not what you make. Imagine a company not having to file corporate tax. Imagine not having to pay any tax's at all if you chose to. Imagine the price of our good droping 20%, but the overall price rises only 2%, because of the fair tax. What could you buy, save, or invest if you got 100% of your paycheck.

A flat tax is not fair, a fair tax is. Do some research.

Daeron, you are partially right...Sales taxes can vary by county and large city within a state, but that's somewhat rare. They are still called "State Sales Tax", even here in PA where we are a Commonwealth.

Caymen, Daeron,

I think I might have misspoke a little and I realized it just after sending my post.

Correct, it's not uncommon for a state to have a base sales tax and then for counties and localities to add on to that a modest amount.

That was how it was in NY state when I lived there (no doubt still is).

For example, see the rates below by County in NY...the rates of 7, 8%, etc. sound bad, but they include the base state rate of 4%.

It's a cumulative thing.

Missouri has a state sales tax, then a county sales tax, and most cities have a sales tax. Then there are other taxing districts that might have a sales tax, like a transportation tax district that is formed for funding an highway overpass for Wal-Mart, for example. That particular Wal-Mart adds another sales tax just to pay for the highway overpass. Then, we also have excise taxes on certain goods and services based one their value, like tires, which function basically like a sales tax.

Gavin, right...it's a cumulative thing for the most parts in states that have a Sales tax, starting at the largest boundary of the state, then down through the county, tack on a city, etc.

I just wanted to point out to Daeron that said the tax is at the city level, it isn't. It may seem that way because it changes from city to city, or county to county, but the reality is every geo and jurisdiction has their finger in the pie.

Go to the link below for all the info you need to learn about the Fair Tax.

Or, go to the library or bookstore and pick up a copy of The Fair Tax Book by John Linder and Neal Boortz. It's very easy to read and explains everything about the Fair Tax.

To heck with the fair tax....we need a flat tax for EVERYONE! Eliminate almost all deductions. Get rid of half the IRS. Companys send a report at the end of the year saying their employees all paid say 10 - 15 % of their wages. Only self employed persons file returns or pay quarterly payments. The rest of the IRS could go after drug dealers and crooks fulltime. If you make $1000 you pay the same percent as you would if you made

$10 million. Flat tax...the best way IMO!

Gary

The Fair Tax completely eliminates the IRS, and nobody would have to file tax returns. Everyone gets the freedom of determining how much they pay in Federal taxes by their own spending habits.

And as for the "drug dealers and crooks", they would now be paying taxes also. They by consumer goods every day just like everyone else. So would all of the illegal aliens who work for cash and don't file a tax return.

Check out the web site or the book.:)

I listen to Neal everyday and I'm sorry I just don't care for the Fair Tax .
