Wondering if anyone has adapted an iPod connection into the stereo harness yet. I found a few easy connections but they're around $185.00 and up. Since we are DIY' ers I thought that someone has already done it, or is currently in the process of . . . . . need help please. By the way I have the Pioneer, six disc in dash, two din head unit.

I bought an aftermarket Pioneer MP3 player, Satellite ready, and has an aux input. The adapter for the aux input is seperate but doesn't cost too much. Much cleaner sound and 10 cd's on 1 mp3 disc is great. Head unit was about $130 and wiring harnesses added another $20. Free install at circuit city.

I got my ipod interface from www.crutchfield.com but have not installed it. Install should be easy, just plug into the back of my Pioneer Headunit and splice into a power supply and ground wire. Waiting to get my Ipod until I install it.

Thanks guys . . .

. . . I contacted Crutchfield and ordered item# 581PA11F1. The reviews seem to be pretty good but the confirmation is in the put'n. I'll document the installation to help anyone who may need it. The item is about $130, I didn't want to spend that much but I can't stand the static from the FM modulator and the reviews from the other iPod interfaces are horrible. I have an interface in my VW, Golf and I love it, so I know what it could sound like and I want the same for my ST (since we spend most of our time in it).

Talk to you guys soon. . . . ( K

Item has been received and working in a matter of minutes, installed in a matter of a few hours (interruptions from the wife and kids), and not to mention mounting and wire routing questions. I did take photos of the install but that will be uploaded soon (busy schedule, sorry). The operation of the unit is great, although I do have minor issues with the unit.

I have a 30 gig Ipod photo, with an external device that allows you to record onto the iPod (I forget the name). It connects onto the top of the iPod. It allows you to record and then listen to what was recorded while connected. It has an external (very small internal) speaker. Again, while connected the device allows you to hear or listen to the iPod, on the spot. With the iPod cranked all the way up, you can hear the innards of the iPod working. It’s the same situation when the adaptor unit is connected. Again, at very high volumes but at normal and or low volumes, it works fine, no noise.

As for the auxiliary or secondary (RCA) connection no noise at all what so ever, but while connected to the RCA auxiliary connection the iPod will not be charged. The main or primary connection will connect directly to the bottom of the iPod and charge the unit at the same time.

I hacked an FM modulator cable and grafted two RCA male connections to it (left and right). Allowing an iPod to connect directly into an RCA input, i.e. home stereo, amp, TV, self powered speakers, ect. . The home made connection was attached to the secondary (auxiliary) input on the converter, allowing two iPods to be connected at either end of the truck. My little girl can now connect her iPod using the rear (aux.) connection, without having to drag the cable from the front of the truck to the rear. We can now listen to my little girl’s iPod while she navigates through the iPod herself, allowing the driver (me) to concentrate on the road. Although it would not make any sense for one person to listen to the iPod through the rear console using the mute function but if two people want to listen then the rear console makes perfect sense.

You can use a “ Y “ connection to connect multiple items at a time or just run one RCA cable with female connections to plug whatever you may want to hear out of the truck’s audio system, when using the aux. connection.

Sorry for the long story, I will post my install process soon. Enjoy.

Here is what I purchased.
