To answer your question...



If getting precisely directed radiation, the radiologist often puts a tattoo (or even a few) on the patient's body to mark the point to direct the "beam" of radiation. The tattoo is essentially a target. This allows repeated radiation sessions to preciously pin-point the cancerous area(s).



Often they color them red, and they are about the size of a freckle.

My three were used for alignment for treatment of Prostate Cancer before the implant of 80 seeds with a 30 day halflife.. 40 treatments in-which they laid you down in a mold, aligned the dots and did treatment for about 6 min. Whole thing took 12 min. I would drive 2 hours and 15 min., get a 12 min treatment, then drive 2 hours 15 min back. Put some miles on the trac.



Doing fine, three years ago, no sign of recurrence, and no overall adverse effects. Thanks for the thought.
