Just last Friday he decided he could no longer fight his esophageal cancer. He was diagnosed last December. He was well loved here in MN and did a lot for the Twins organization in raising donations for various organizations. He will be missed. But he will always be remembered in the official MLB logo.

Definitely a sad day.

Andy, I suspect you're well aware of this--but many other people aren't, so I thought it might be worthwhile to post this link to a story about the unique tribute to Killebrew which has been up on the wall at Mall of America since it opened around 20 years ago. (MOA was built on the site of old Met Stadium.)

I actually only was aware of that this week. I don't make it down to MOA that often (maybe 4 times since they've opened it). I know they have the bronzed homeplate. That is a cool tribute to him though. If you get a chance, read Cuddyer's article about him on FSN

Andy, if you want to see it, go to the fourth floor, the railing overlooking Nick Universe immediately next to Hooters, and look to your right. Or, from the park, look high on the wall in the southeast corner, above the log flume.

There's no signage anywhere, and the mall employees are pretty much clueless (even those at the so-called visitors center), so if you don't know where to look, you're likely to be out of luck.

I was guessing it was by the flume based on the pictures in that article. I'll have to try and remember to look for it, although I don't know when that'll be.

Yep--but the next-to-Hooters location is the best one for viewing or photographing. (I'm 99% sure the photo in the article was taken from that location.)
