For the second time, the side mirrors of my '01 have stopped responding to the switch on the driver's side door. The first time, at the suggestion of some on here, I was able to take the switch apart, pry the contacts up a bit and get it to respond again. However, after a while it wouldn't control one mirror without moving the other as well, and now both have stopped altogether. I took it apart and tried to bring it back to life again today, but they're both still dead.

Should I just replace the switch? If so, anyone know the part number?

Most likley the switch bit the dust. Use a meter or test light for power, to exclude a broken wire first. I dont know the switch number.

As Fast Eddie suggested, check for broken wire. Had same problem on my '02, it was a broken/pinched wire in the rubber boot area where all the wires are hidden located where the driver's door hinges to open.

A couple of follow-up questions:

1. Is there a fuse that's just for the mirrors? If so, I'll check it.

2. How do I check to see if it's getting power using a meter? There's a bundle of wires running to the wiring harness, which do I need to test?

Also, if it ends up being the switch, where can I search for the part number?

I had that switch go bad twice on my F250 over the course of 6 years.

Not sure why, I doubt I used it 20 times.

I would say replace the switch. I don't remember it being expensive. If you messed with the contacts the first time and made it work, seems like it would be the switch.

You could always use a multimeter and check it.

i have an 02 and the mirrors aren't working.

what's the best way to remove the switch.

i'd rather ask first rather than after i break something.

thanks for any response.

If you had problems with the switch before and one mirror stopped working before the second one failed, they my bets are that it's a "Bad switch"

If it were just a fuse they would have both stopped working immediately. If you did blow a fuse it's probably because the switch is shorting out.

Either way, you need a new switch.
