So today I need to drive down to Elk Grove on Hwy 99. Not one of my favorite things to do, as 99 is usually crowded, with a lot of people driving SLOW in the left lane. Heavy traffic due to the Sheriff's office having someone pulled over greeted me for the first couple of miles... Traffic starts to move better after passing the incident, and soon we're moving along at 75 mph in the left lane. Not bad... I look in the rearview mirror, and see a silver car darting through traffic. Look again, and he's coming up on me doing @ 100/120 mph... gets on my rear bumper. I can't change lanes, and there's someone in front of me. So I tap the brakes and kick off the cruise control, and to let him know to back off slightly. If you know me, you know I like to go fast in the left lane, so I'm NOT trying to slow this guy down, I just have nowhere to go at the moment... He stays ON MY BUMPER, so I brake check him again. This time he hits the brakes, swerves, and moves onto the left shoulder to PASS ME. As the car goes by, I see it's got 5 or 6 black youths inside. They flip me off as they pass, and I tell 'em that I think they're #1 too. As I look down for my headset to call their license plate into CHP, I see their car move into my lane. Then he brake checks me.... Too late! I punted him! He was in a new car, as least new to him, as it didn't even have plates on it. Well, it WAS new... The entire rear end came apart! I believe it was an Infinity. At least the paper license plate said 'Sacramento Infinity' Taillights, rear bumper, side panel, all gone. We pull off, he pulls into one lot, me into another. I get out and look at the ST. I'm missing my front license plate. That's it! Damage was quite minimal... I'm already on the phone to the CHP operator, who answer all cell 911 calls. The guy pulls up, gets out, and starts with "So, you like to play games???? I hope you got insurance!!!" The operator's asking where I'm located, and I don't quite know... So I ask the guy, "Where are we? What exit is this?" He tells me, I tell the operator, and ask how soon they can have a unit there. The guy jumps back into his car, and takes off!!!! I'm like "Wow!"... So I tell the dispatcher that he's taking off, and he wants to know if I want to pursue it. "Why? All I need is a new plate! I'll go to DMV and get a new one. He's the one with the damage..." Last week I saw a hit & run on the freeway and the driver took off. She took out 2 cars on the freeway and left. I followed and got the driver's license plate to call it in to CHP. It's like Crazytown around here.

Last year, I, the Mrs. now typing, witnessed a hit-and run. However, I stayed on pursuit to the person who left the scene. CAlled 911 and they said if I felt safe to follow then do so. Eventually, after a play-by-play of our directions a squad car took over behind me and I backed off. I'm sure this black youth did not expect a Ford St to keep up with him and boy was he truly busted!! He also didn't stop for the officer and continued downtown until he hit a building, then attempted to run, so he got lasered. All over going a wee bit fast on a curvy, wet road. There was definately some police history there!

Bill,

I didn't 'stop to talk to them'... When in an accident, you're required to stop. So I did... And I did think that there might be problems. That's why I was on the phone to the CHP when I had contact with them. I think that may have been the reason he jumped back into his smashed car and ran...

Oh and Bill, I'm ALREADY lucky to be walkin' the earth! I've had several near death episodes in my lifetime... Never a dull moment!!!! lol

Wow, it must be crazy if the CHP asks if you want them to pursue a hit-and-run!

Maybe you were lucky, since it would have been 6 against 1 about what happened.

Move to a State that respects their citizens and carry a firearm. OR, wait for the crime then call the law, they'll be ther in about 10 minutes ....

The altercation never would have come to what you experienced, nobody would have flipped the bird, nobody would have brake checked anyone. Why? cause you never know what the other guy is packing,... it's kinda like RESPECT.

Accountability ....

edit: Oh, and very glad to hear you are okay. With Thugs it could have been very bad...

There were girls in the car, so I MIGHT have been able to take on a couple of 'em... lol

I'm kinda surprised by how well the ST held up! Then again, last winter, I was doing a little 'drifting' on my street during a snowstorm, and put the front end into a snowbank... oops! So this is the second time this year I've taken the front license plate off... Maybe I should just leave it off. Looks like about 80% of the marks on the front end will come off with some acrylic paint cleaner. There's a slight crease in the plastic, but I've already got a spare front end in my garage if I needed it.

so Krash, ,be prepared incase they come back later and have you reported ya ever know.... The kid probably thought ... "I know he bumped me but maybe somebody will stop that saw me weaving in and out of traffice--driving irratically. ???" or "oh my insurance rates!!" who knows for sure HA!

Glad you are ok! :)

Its amazing where I live that if you get into an accident where there are no injuries, it takes up to 30 min for the po-po's to get to you. I was at Cub Foods a month or two ago and a lady pulled in too far in her parking spot and had pushed in my bumper a little bit, Cub called the police since they wouldn't page the owner of the car (all I wanted was her to move her car so I could verify no damage). Of course by the time they came, she had already came out and was mad at me that I waited for her.

But a cop car gets hit outside my dad's house in North Minneapolis and 30-40 cop cars are there within 5-10 min. Granted there were felons in the car. They weren't getting pursued by the cops, they were stupid enough to run a stop sign in a residential neighborhood at 70mph. Hit a cop coming down the other way. i should mention they also were stupid enough to try and run, one collapsed in pain, the other was tackled by the cop, they also had drugs in the car, felons in i think 8 or 9 states, under 21 and no driving licenses. Cop was in the right place, well sort of, finally got these guys off the streets.

It's a crime to leave an accident so I don't think you have to worry about that. Glad your okay. There are a**hole drivers every where.

yea the front end of the ST is so flexible. lol i rammed someone by accident too and all i lost was my license plate when she needed a whole new bumper.

AS soon as he heard me talking to the cops, he was outta there! So I think that he either: Stole the car, Didn't have a license and/or registration OR insurance, had a warrant for his arrest out already, was under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, or simply didn't want to get in trouble for his stupid driving. But he definately didn't want any part of the cops being there! My front end has some minor damage, small crease in the blue plastic area under the grille and it's pushed in about 1/2 inch. It pushes back out, but won't stay there. Nothing serious...

This happened near my City..

you should check it out. practically the same situation, only the guy in your spot was killed when he swerved instead of smacking into the guy.

Kinda reminds me of the story where a little old lady calls the cops and tells them that someone is breaking into her house. They tell her that there are no units available right then, but to lock herself in her room and wait for the cops to arrive. She hangs up the phone, turns right around and calls back and says, "Don't bother with the patrol, send a coroner. I just shot them all!" She had a black and white there in 2 minutes. They caught the burglars, then said, "Thought you shot them all!" She comes back with, "I thought there were no units available to catch these guys!"
