This image came across the scanner at the airport today...

Those are the ones they found. Imagine the ones that get through security.

I was doing a job at the State Building in Columbus, Ohio. We had to walk through a metal detector before entering. I had my leatherman knife and a small Swiss Army pocket knife. I went through the scanner and totally forgot about my knifes because I always carry them on myself. Once the guard said I was clean, I reached for my cell phone in my back pocket and realized I had my knife on me. I turned around and handed it to the guard. He was angry at me. I then handed him my Swiss Army knife. He was not happy. I looked at him, said sorry, and told him he needs to turn that thing up or something.

He ended up thanking me for being honest.

Makes me feel real safe. I still had change, a money clip, and a screwdriver in my pocket. The sensors never detected any of those items either. Pretty sad.

Tom,

I agree. I am no screener, don't work with them at all for that matter. I just get this stuff mailed to me so that we get a "reminder" of what is out there making it to the airplane every day.

I sit there and see pocket knives hanging on the pockets and belt and simply shake my head.

I guess that is why I have a job, the system is not perfect. If it was, I would not be needed....

Coastiejoe,

That is precisely my point.

The image shows up as a conventional revolver shape. There is no "Conventional" revolver that would fit in a modern laptop. (mine is only about 1/2" thick) It would require a custom designed gun to fit the available space.

So, if I wanted to conceal a gun in a laptop PC, I would need to design a gun specifically for that purpose. If I did that, why would I make lit ook like a conventional revolver to peak the suspicions of the airport security??? I would try to make it look like a part of the laptop not a gun!

My statement implied that common sense would tell you that you cannot hide a conventional revolver in a laptop. Yes they were right to take the case apart to see what was generating the shape of the revolver.

I'm sure that carring a cellphone that resembles a Colt 45 Automatic would prompt even more reactions from airport security.

Coastie Joe (and anyone else): I will be flying this weekend and will be carrying my laptop with me.... am I going to have to do anything special with it when going through the screening process?

I have a backpack type computer bag, so there will be other things in there besides the laptop, but nothing illegal.

I know this is probably a stupid question, I just dont fly very often... much rather drive, just to far this time with much to do when I get back that I dont have time to spend 2 days in a car each way.

When going through security, you will have to take the laptop out of the bag and run both through seperately, each in their own plastic tub. Make sure the battery is charged so if they ask you to turn it on, you can. That doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

I have never had a problem with my laptop and screening except the time I had the deaded SSSS code on my ticket...:wacko::huh::)

I never heard it called the SSSS code, but there is a code that gives you the wonderful joy of moving straight to the special area to have everything searched thoroughly. Not a huge deal actually, as long as you're not in a hurry.

The SSSSSSSSSS's come up in most cases if...

Your traveling alone,

One way ticket,

Bought with cash,

Bought less than a month before flying,

Your name is very close or matches a name on the No-Fly list.

As well as most 22 to 38 year old males...

Any of the above you increase your chance of a "Individual Screening".

Nothing big about it though. Easy as pie. No strip search or anything like that.

I love the fact that I go thru no security. If I leave my job I will HATE to fly.. LOL

Because of how I get my tickets I get the SSSSS's all the time. But I don't go thru the security line to get to the gate. Every now and then I get someone that does not know there job and insists on wanding me at the gate. I remind them who I am and show them my credentials and explain I will light it up like a Christmas Tree. Even after that, I have had three people INSIST on wanding me. It is rather entertaining to see their face light up when I tell them the beeping is my gun, knife and or spare bullets. They freak out and don't know what to do...

It is the little things that make life fun...

I'd pay money to be in the line behind you! :)

Not really worried about the screening, just haven't flown since 9/11 and want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row. I normally check all my bags, but I carry the laptop and my orders in my carry on bag.
