Depending on where you buy it. $65 to $90. Looks like a good alternative to GPS navigation with a larger laptop screen. Granted you wont always have your laptop with you. I never change head units. I just make sure I like my factory selection, when I buy a vehicle. Any thoughts...

I would hold out for a better price. Frequently see it for less than $50.00 bucks on sale. I don't use it for GPS but that is the program I use to map appointments in my daily work.

Eddie,

That software actually looks pretty cool. I'd be interested in it, except for the fact that you'd always have to bring your laptop with you on the road.

IMO a smart and cheap alternative to other forms of GPS.

I used to use this 5 yrs or so ago and it was good software however I would invest in a hand held GPS before I went this route. The touchscreen of a hand held unit is way better (and 10 times SAFER) than having to fool with a mouse or touch pad.

I've got it on my laptop, but hardly ever use it anymore for directions. I use it for template making and map making (using zip codes and specific information). I use my Alpine Blackbird for both outside the car and inside wheen t is docked in the IVA-W505...

A friend of mine is using it in his car, but he built a full computer setup in his car. He fiberglassed a small monitor into his console and has a trackball mouse glassed in also with a wireless keyboard. THe program comes with a GPS antenna which isstuck to his rear window. It's a neat setup, but a little more than I would think of doing right now.

I have also used S&T for years. Only used it a couple of times with the laptop b/c it was such a PITA. Hard stop, laptop flies... Also, had to make sure laptop didn't go to sleep or the screen saver came on. Too many cords running across the car to keep laptop charged and cell phone charged.

I have used it in my vehicles.

My wife runs the computer, though.

It works very well, and can save your track, unlike a TomTom-style navigator.

I've had it installed for 3-4 years myself. Before all the nav devices came out it severd it's purpose. I still use it for looking up streets and locations all the time, just don't use the nav anymore.

I have used that program (successive versions) for probably 10 years. It came bundled with a computer I was issued at work and I liked it enough to buy it personally over the years for my own use. I just didn't buy the one with the GPS component as I didn't have a GPS at the time.

FE, I had it on my laptop for a few years, and it worked great for trips. I still used it after getting my Garmin when looking places up where I did not have internet to use google. I finally deleted it about a month ago since I was using it so little now.

That being said, a lot of states are coming up with laws about being distracted while driving (texting, typing, etc) and I had a good friend in FL get a ticket for texting on his phone and having his laptop open on the front seat (with his map up on the screen).

I like my garmin and the fact that the screen is up by my eyes, I spend less time with my eyes off the road.

I had delorme and this software in the past. Delorme is by far the better product. However, I think the mobile phones now are a better solution. My Nokia E71 has good software and I just place it in the cradle and it gives verbal instructions.

I wound up buying the 2009 streets&trips without the hardware. I had The 2001 version. I needed upgrade. I like it much better than anything on the net. More detailed. Dont have to go online..

Thanks for the input..:)

Does that software work with a screenless usb gps? I see those on ebay for $30, and actually now that I think about it they come with map software. So unless it's less then $40 ($30 plus shipping) I think you've paid too much.
