No, I'm not gettin' ride of the ST, but my wifes '90 Volvo 740 is just about on it's last legs. Well, it runs alright, but it just is getting too expensive to maintain. Anyway, we are thinking about getting a new sedan. Anyone have any suggestions or expieriances with different makes and models?

My hubby and I bought a Hyundai Elantra on August 1, 2005. It wasn't our first choice. It maybe too small if you have children with car seats. The Hyundai Sonata 2006, are very nice! We couldn't get into one $$ wise.[Broken External Image]:

Check out the Fusion. I drove one. Really nice car. Looks and rides great. Shares the same platform with the Mazda 6, IIRC.

how bout the new volvo s60?

i drove it for a day when my s40 was in for maintenance....

TRY to buy American made, if you can, and your budget allows.

I know how it is, even though I am a G.M. employee, and U.A.W.!

I, or my family have, shall we say, purchased several Non-G.M. vehicles

in the last ten years!

As far as this "Foriegn Competition" thing goes, let's try to "Go Out Shootin'".

IF we still can!;)

My fiancee has an '04 Volvo S-80. It is a very nice vehicle, but is expensive to maintain.

The Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata are also nice.

I agree with Caymen. The Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/Lincoln Zephyr trio look good, and appear to have a lot of potential to be good cars. If I was in the market for new car, I'd look at them. I'd also consider the new 2006 Hyundai Sonata. A friend of mine bought one, and it's quite an improvement over the previous model. It resembles an Accord in many ways (except price). Hyundai must've used the Accord as their benchmark in redesigning the Sonata. And, the '06 Sonata is assembled at Hyundai's new plant here in the USA.

What constitutes "American made" these days? Many Japanese and European automakers have assembly plants here in the USA, employing Americans. So aren't they American made?

And Chrysler's parent company, DaimlerChrysler, is based in Germany. So would that make Chrysler a foreign car company?

You can't go wrong with a Toyota Camry. Big, roomy, plenty of power with even the 4 cyl, and of course rock-solid reliability.

It's the perfect car for someone who doesn't want to see the inside of a dealer's service area ever!

If you want a lot of bang for your buck get a Mazda 3 five door. Lots of pep and handles like a sport car. All for around 16K. Bought one for my daughter last year and she loves it. I enjoy driving it also, when I get the chance.

what about a lincoln ls??? I love those... The only thing I dislike is the fact that they only take premium... but it is still a "ford", you get the luxury and the handleling os a sports sedan... same platform a jaguar... i think new ones will come out with close to 300 hp??? or 400hp???

nice anyway you put it....

How about looking at a new Ford 500, it is based on the Volvo platform and everybody that owns it raves on the quality of manufacture and creature comforts. You can probably pick up an 05 at a bit of a bargain, If you decide to go Ford, let me know and I can get you an X-plan to save you some more $$$.

Have a good one

I have a 2001 LS and I run regular 87 octane gas in it all the time. Premium is just too expensive. I've had no problems with it, although maybe a slight loss in mpg.

No matter how much you rationalize.....if you

buy foreign....the profits go foreign......

If you take that statement to it's logical conclusion, if I want to buy a domestic car, then Ford and GM are my only options, right?

On the other hand, many of those "foreign profits" are being reinvested right back here in the USA, building domestic assembly plants for their "foreign" cars, employing Americans.

i agree with darin, toyota camary, honda accord or nissan altima would be my choice in that group. on the buy domestic theory, i believe that when you spend your money, quality should be one of the most important factors regardless of where the product was made. i'm not saying don't buy domestic, but when it comes to some products, " foreign " is superior.

i learned my lesson with my fleet of ford focus wagons at auction, i took a bath ! the vehicles sold for 40-50% of the purchase price after only one year. now i switched over to toyota matrix and they have faired much better with less maintanance issues.

when you purchased your tv did you take into consideration where it was made ?

btw, many of the imports are made here in the USA, providing employment for us !

When we find ourselves a country owned by somene else, we will see the error of our ways.

The Japanese did not bring the production to the US out of the kindness of thier hearts.

No offense Q, but I saw one of those today, they're fugly.

If you want COOL, get the new Charger RT! They're big, roomy and POWERFUL! If I ever decide to have kids and decide that I need a car instead of a truck, I'd go for something like a Charger. Something that will drive you and your family around safely and comfortably, but can still be fun to take out and roast the tires on the weekends. ;)

The charger isn't a wagon. The charger is a mid-size sedan. 4 doors and up to 425 Horsepower of you get the SRT version. The SRT8 version is really cool. Functional hood scoop, 20 inch wheels wrapped in good year F1 rubber, dual exhaust, rear decklid spoiler...doesn't look nearly as much like a family car, but more like a speed demon.

The magnum is the wagon. I must admit, that is one of the coolest wagons I've ever seen though. ;)
