I want to tint my front windows asap.

The legal % here in TN is 35 which i believe is the same in the majority of the states.

Ive been told factory is about 20% which id like to get the front windows like that to have

an even match. but dont wanna risk a citation.

does anyone have pictures of the 20% and 35% front tinted windows?

what should i get?

I don't recall what tint I put on mine but it was darker than 35% but not 20%.

What I was going for was during daylight hours when looking from the outside there was a visible difference in the tint level so the cops would not think twice about it.

Never had a problem.

The Trac in my library is 30% if that helps. I wanted to do 20, but not too sure if I would've liked it at night, plus cops around here like to pick out every little thing. I'd imagine that 35 would be too light for my tastes...but that's just me

JT your tint is perfect. i just think 35% is too light and i would like to match it up to factory tint for a clean look but 20% is just a cop magnet. Id like to have a tint where they dont have to think twice and be able to see that one is lighter than the other difference. i guess 30% is perfect. but

ill just have to call around a bit more. i went to a shop with good recommendations and they say its either 20% or 35% no in between.

FRED: whats that HID socket mod picture for in your library. what will it change?

I got some 6000k HID coming in the mail and as everyone knows they get rid of your high beams if they arent bi-xenons.

If the bulbs are bi-xenon, you can keep your high beams but the wire harness provided usually has 2 pins swapped that messes up the high beams.

If you swap the pins you get your high beam function back.

Mine was a gift, but asked to match the back. This is the only pic I have of it tinted...

[Broken External Image]:

Installers say that there is more light through the windshield that allows a less-tint % look.

In Texas, they have a meter the stick on your driver's window if you have tinted glass and it will tell them if it meets or exceeds the limit. I hear that Texast State police also carry a similar device so it's no longer just the officers opinion that your windows are too dark, they can tell exactly what it is and give you a ticket accordingly.

I don't know if Tennesse is that strict, but some of the southern states find windows tinted too dark as a great source of revenue.

...Rich

i had 30% mirror on my Focus in MA i had it on for a bout 3 years and the last 2 years right before i got my trac i had issues getting an inspection i dont bother with it now there strict here and 35% is the limit

See 20% is perfect on a sunny day. cause it does look lighter

but on a cloudy rainy day, the moisture makes it look darker.

my sport trac is white so i think a 20% would be highly noticeable by po po

Tennessee hasnt been that strict with me. Ive got 5% on the front windows with 5% on top of the factory tint on all the rear windows with 50% on the entire windshield and havent had any problems and its been 2yrs..alot depends on the officer I guess?

I got a ticket two weeks ago in my fiance's Tahoe for 20% tint. They had a road block and I guess were trying to increase revenue before the end of the month. Just going to pay the fine and keep on keepin' on. It's not a moving violation. I was out of town, otherwise there would not have been a problem with the local pd.

No tint on the Trac, yet...probably going to do 20% to match.

Hey everybody. I used a 13% tint for the two front doors, This, IMHO, is as close to the factory privacy glass as I could get. Find a good shop(even ones that do windows in your house). A majority of the houses along the beach do this to save on A/C costs.

Arturo,

whenI had mine done 10years ago, I told the guy I wanted to match the back glass. He said the tint he put on wasapprox 30% with Titanium in it. I have not had any issues except with passengers.

This is mine back when I had 20% on the front to match. It actually meters darker than the back. The back is exactly 20, where the front is 20 over the stock 75ish. Looks exactly the same if your eyeballs aren't made out of tint meter, though.

Mine now totals 3.6 on the rear, 3.7 on the front, 3.6 on the sunroof, and 26.3 on the windshield.

Make sure to find out what kind of film they're using. I'm betting that it'll be dyed polyester for that price, and in a year, it'll be as purple as Barney's ass.

Sputtered metal is fine, but I like the carbon films. They never fade and don't interfere with radio signals. I used SunTek CXP. I can take a pic or two tomorrow.

Oh, and a warning... If you wear polarized sunglasses in the truck, and get the high-end films, you'll see rainbows. You get used to it...
