Im going to be needing some new rubber soon before I leave back to school and I am just curious what you all recommend. I live in the mountains of arizona (yes they do exist with snow and all) and I do a lot of driving on the highway as well as finding myself a nice rocky road and ice.

Kody,

Please complete the info in your profile, We need to know the year of the ST you have and rim size.

Thank you !

Kody, you might look at Tire Rack or Discount Tire websites. Plug in specifics on your car, then read reviews of the various tires that others have bought. Personally I've had good experiences with Michelin, Yokohama and Kumho. I've had equally bad tires from Dunlop and Pirelli, and will never purchase them again. As Todd says, put up the size you're looking for and members here will chime in with their recommendations.

I like the Goodyear Wrangler SRA. I've had a set on my '94 Explorer for 4 or 5 yrs. Very good on all kinds of road conditions. I don't know about off road. Just bought a set for my son's Mountaineer and a set for my '02 Sport Trac, although they won't go on the ST til winter. The Firestones on it have too much tread to get rid of, but suck in the snow.

I've been running Michelin X Radial LT2 for five years. Best price at the time was at Sam's Club. I never got stuck in the Wisconsin winters. They grip the snow and ice well. Great in the rain, too. Smooth, quiet ride for 60,000 miles so far.

I should mention the reason I bought our tires now is the combined incentives from Goodyear and Sears were too good to pass up. A rebate in the form of a $40 Visa card from Goodyear, plus $80 off from Sears for a set of 4 ordered on line and installed by Sears. Plus about 100,000 points on our shopyourway card, good at Sears and K-Mart. I think they're $50 off this week, plus the rebate. Without the incentives, Sears price was just under a local shop that's usually cheaper than the other places. I'm not sure how the points translate into $$, but I think I saved $150+ per set of 4 tires if I use all the points, and I will. The Mountaineer needs lower ball joints and I need a code reader which I can get at Sears.

I am having excellent results with the stock size Michelin XLTs. Very quiet tire and am not having any wear problems. And the one time I played on the beach, I didn't get stuck.

Either way you go, I echo the Tire Rack and Discount tire websites to educate yourself on your options. I searched Discount got a price then went into the store with prices in mind. They offered $800 for a set, I countered with $500 installed and got it!
