I own a 2002 ST. Is there any other way to release the rear tonneau cover from within after the tailgate is down. I'm aware there is a emergency escape handle under the front half. Its always a hassle to have to use the key to release the rear section when you need to access the bed.

Thanks,

Oleh

Someone did a project I believe and I used was to take the bunjie chords with the small ball (for holding down tarps via the grommits) and slip it through the wire part of the release. One on each side, pull the chords and the cover unlocks. I will try to take some pics and post.

Check Projects board or search messages. I think 3 or 4 people came up with different ways to do it. Depends on how handy you are or how much time you want to spend on it. I'm going to do that eventually to mine. Just don't have time....

I'm one of the ones who did a project on this. First, I'm assuming that you have the Ford cover. If you look at the side of the metal boxes over the latch mechanisms on each side of the tonneau, there is a small cutout where you can see the cable. You can push this cable in with one finger, and it will release the latch on that side. Do that on both sides at the same time and it will release.

I did this and it works very well for me.

With the power lock installed on the tailgate as well, I rarely use the key in the back at all.

J,

you cannot flip the cover around since the front cover is 2" longer that the rear cover, and the rear cover is slightly tapered.
