Heck....I would love to have had that to drive...BEFORE all the trauma!

I'd still use it as a farm truck or back woods beater, Hell yeah. Gotta love those older Yota's.

I'd take it (pre destruction of course) to haul larger loads with, and get back into practice with a manual transmission. How the original owner let the body rust through by the gas cap is beyond me.

I'd be pained to see it, but I wonder if a comparably equipped Ford could do the same feat?

I think the roll bar & grille guard were pretty cool. I feel they helped significantly in the longevity of the Toyota in this video.

I know most don't wanna hear this but I seriously doubt a Ford or any Domestic truck could have survived that. Those 22r motors are awesome and almost indestructible. I'd love to get a right-hand drive vehicle. I had a chance to get a 1977 Trans Am right-hand drive up in the Tri-Cities, Wash. (Kennewick) at a dealer for $12k fully restored, should've bought it but passed. It had a 455, 4speed trans, Gold on tan leather interior, bad ass car came from Japan, a Marine that had it shipped over. It's the only one I've ever seen.:driving:

The only hard part is the water immersion. I don't count the fire as repairs must have been made afterwards to make the thing driveable, which could be done to any vehicle.

I've seen my share of busted-up ancient Fords still driving, I have faith. Now a modern Ford, well, I'd have doubts, but I'd also have doubts on a modern asiatic vehicle as well.

I bet a right-hand drive vehicle would drive the cops nuts

The 4.9L I6 was too. That engine would run with no oil in the engine. As KL said, the only impressing part was the salt water, but I know of a guy here that had his ST under ocean water during a hurricane.

Without the help of the mechanic, it fired right up.

I suspect that the salt water will take it's toll over time, but never the less an amazingly durable vehicle.

....Richard

thanks eddie.

very impressive

"but never the less an amazingly durable vehicle"

Gary, those bricks don't count as rock crawling.

I'll need to see a similar test to be convinced.

:supercool::supercool: They should just go ahead and rebuild it from the ground up and use it as the poster child for Top Gear.
