I was stationed there for about 3 years (1965-1968) and that's where I met my late wife. I have lots of fond memories of WRAMC and the Washington. DC area. I was never very fond of the new hospital tower they build on the northeast corner, but the old hospital building was very old and beautiful, but just not suitable for a modern hospital.

I wonder what they will do with the old buildings and land....I'm sure it's worth a fortune and some realestate developer could make it into a huge estate for someone with a ton of money. There are about 8-10 other large buildings within walking distance of the main old hospital building and the new hospital tower. It could probably be turned into some kind of a multi-entity corporate HQ with the hospital tower turned into a large office complex and some of the other buildings converted into other support buildings.

Eddie,

No. But that's where I got into the computer field way back in 1966, and was smart enough to get my MOS changed to the 74 series. Promotions became fairly easy after that...

Most of my promotions from E-5 through E-7 where acceleratied while I was in the secondary zone without enough time in my current rank to be eligible for promotion in the primary zone. I made the promotion list to E-8 a few months before I retired, but declined the promotion since it might take 12-18 months before I got the promotion, and then I would have been locked in for another 2 years. I got out with 20 years and 8 days total active military service and my pay doubled the day I got out. Acutally it double about a month earlier since I had 45 days leave, I was already out and working for a large international corporation about 3 weeks before I officially retired on July 31, 1983, so I was also getting paid by the Army and my civilian job.

My civilian job also paid for my relocation from Ft. Riley, Kansas to Waco, Tx as did the Army. Plus my civilian job paid for my hotels here in Waco for 30 days until I located a house. My new job also let me have a week off with pay to go back to Ft. Riley to move my furniture, etc. Oddly enough, the company closed the branch in Waco about 3.5 years later??
