This has not been a good last two weekends.

July 3 I had to unexpectedly put down my 9yo beagle due to stomach cancer. I've had him since a puppy- that was a hardest thing I have ever had to do. :(

This weekend I changed the oil in my wifes 2010 Escape, the one that received $14k in damage 6 days after owning it. It has never been right since the body shop gave it back to us. Well, my wife heads out to lunch and calls me shortly after leaving. The hood flew up and shattered the windshield and wrecked the hood. I head out to save her and noticed that the safety hook was never catching the hood! The hook was loose and the paint was missing on the inside of it along with paint missing on th outside of the hood catch. My problem is we've had the car back for a few months now. I'm afraid they might try to BS thier way out of fixing it.

Thank god the car didn't suffer mechanical damage. We tried to get dimminished value from the other parties insurance company (Progressive) because it was a new car and they pretty much laughed at us. So, we're stuck with a loaded 2010 Escape. Useless Carfax doesn't show the accident and it's obvious the car has had front and rear damage. It sucks this accident was not our fault however we have to pay.

This is why I HATE having other people work on my cars. It is so hard to find quality work anymore these days. It's all about the mighty dollar and what they can get away with.

Stad,

That's why there is that old "when it rains it pours" expression.

Sorry to hear it. We too tried to get a diminished value claim on a car that was 4 months old when it was in a "no fault of ours" accident. No dice.

As for your wife's Escape, sounds fishy that it wasn't until months later that the hood flew up, and that it was only days after changing the oil. I wonder if the safety hook was "kind of" working all those months, and your changing the oil got it into a "kind of not working" state? Again, not your fault, but I don't trust anyone. My son had a car fixed that had hood damage, and upon pickup that was the FIRST thing I looked at.

Both of our last two vehicles that have been fixed due to wrecks caused by others have been done in stellar fashion. But then, I demand NOTHING less.

A carfax report need not show an accident unless it shows a salvage title. Also, no car when fixed right should be "obvious" that it ever had damage...IMHO.

We called the body shop and they said they are not responsable. I told them the hook latch was not right and the estimate shows "replace latch" and it was not replaced. On our way to the body shop we stopped by Ford to look at the latch of another Escape and the safety hook was tight and right up against the latch. Our safety hook is sloppy loose and about a 5/8" away from the latch. After showing the body shop the latch and explaining all the problems we've had with thier repairs they said maybe we can pay half the repair.

Trust me, I am not trying to scam them, we let them off the hook for a lot of problems with thier work and excuses. We have already taken a big hit for the loss of value of this new car that wasn't our flault.

Some of the problems we've had after delivery and thier so-called QC check-

- Runs, dirt , sand scratches and fish eyes in all painted repair areas (fixed)

- paint overspray in all door jams (not fixed)

- 1' long heavy run inside rear hatch at hinges (not fixed)

- small crease in "replaced" left front fender (not fixed)

- Lift gate open message (sorta fixed after several attempts)

- rear wiper cover clips broken (estimate said replace, they glued it shut)

- hood prop clip missing (fixed)

- Radiator support spot welds not sealed or painted- bare metal (fixed)

- rear hatch Escape emblem on wrong side and wrong place (fixed)

- Belt routing and emissions stickers missing under hood- estimate said replace (not fixed)

- 5' of green tape left in roof rain drip rail (owner removed)

- 3' of green tape left in engine compartment on fender (owner removed)

My wife insisted we go to this body shop and I wanted another. When talking with the others in the area they said don't go there (hers) and mine was the best without me dropping the name!

I just had my 40K mile service done on my Mercedes....$825 which consisted of an oil and filter change, both intake air filters and the cabin air filter, Tranny fluid change with filter, and new wiper blades, and a complete check of the tires, brakes, belts, lights, AC, etc. and any technical service updates. The only good side is that they always give me a brand new Mercedes to drive as a loaner at no charge.

My warranty runs out at the end of January 2012, so I will be doing a lot of the work myself in the future, or I will find a competent shop with more reasonable rates. I must admit that their service is top notch, and well above any service I have gotten from any other dealership, but God knows that you pay for it !!

Stad,

You should just do what other members here do when it comes to their wife's opinion and input on making decisions. They would tell here what's what and then just do it. After all, this is a site of manly men.

LOL. Just messing with you trying to lighten a sucky situation, and remembering back to past "I call the shots in my house" chest beating by other members.

Stad,

My ex has an '08 escape. She had to get the front end repaired. She went with the insurance companies sujestion, a chevy dealer.

She brought it over to show me. She was having trouble with the hood latch. One was the main latch wasnt adjusted peoperly and the safety latch handle bolt was loose. I took care of that for her.

The other problem was they didnt install some of the clips that held the bumper cover in place on the ends and a couple in the middle. She took it back and they ordered the parts. She has been back twice because it still wont stay cliped in place.

Seems alot of body shops dont care anymore.

Some years back a shop was paid to replace the nose on my '88 t-bird. Only plastic and rubber parts. Years later I was replacing all the headlight buckets and park and turn signals. They had yellowed with age.

What I found was the shop only fiberglassed the nose. I was po'ed. Too many years had passed by now. I was discussing this with a friend at church. He said he knew the owner. He said, the owner has a cocaine problem. So I suspect the insurance $$ went up his nose.

This was a well known custom body shop. They were highly recomended.

Same thing happened to my wife old 1997 Eagle. She had a front end collision that was repaired by shop and a few months later the hood flew up and smashed the wind sheild. Turns out the hood latch was probably still busted front previous accident but we still had to pay deductible.
