Used the hair dryer to remove the dealer decal. Came off pretty easy. Then used bug & tar remover to remove residue. The "Explorer" letters took a little longer. I used the hair dryer & fishing line technique, however for the left over tape residue, I used my fingernail. Took some patience but it all came off without a scratch. After a coat of wax, you can never tell they were there. I'm still on the fence over the "Sport Trac XLT" badge. I'll leave it on for now, but I'm leaning towards the clean look.

Way to go. Taking the Explorer letters off is a must. I did it the first week I had mine. I personnaly hated for my ST to be called an explorer. It's a SPORT TRAC damn it. By removing all the explorer badges I felt like I was giving it it's own identity.

I hate to advertise for any dealer. So far the most that has happened is a dealer liscense plate holder. That got chunked with the paper plates...

My dealer had the following items on my wife's new Escape: Dealer logo stuck on tailgate, license tag holder had dealer's name on it, and the trailer hitch had yet another logo stuck in it. Those 3 things were pitched when I drove it home the first day.

Whenever I buy a vehicle, the last thing I do when negotiating is insist that the dealer remove their decal. Some have balked, so I then ask them to take a couple more thousand dollars off the price of the vehicle for my "advertising fees". I've never had a dealer who hasn't removed the decal! :D

Darin,

Sounds like you bought at Joe Cooper. They definitely pile on the ads. I bought my first ST there. They have the worst service department in town, so I never go there anymore. Five Star Ford is the best in OKC IMO.

I can't stand dealers putting that stuff on my vehicles. In fact, when I went to Turkey, I had to remove them, because leaving them on my Toyota could potentially place my family in danger as a terrorist target. Without the badges, it was nearly impossible to tell the difference between a US and Turkish Corolla.

Andy--I go one further. My sister once got a new vehicle with a decal-style dealer ID, that used some sort of adhesive that, once removed the day after she bought it, left a discoloration for the rest of the vehicle's life. So now, I insist that I get a vehicle that has NEVER had a dealer ID sticker on it. Once I even rejected a vehicle that had been factory ordered for me, simply because they had put the sticker on it as soon as it had arrived--I had specifically negotiated and gotten in writing at the time I ordered that this wasn't acceptable. They ended up putting that car on their lot, and ordering me another one.

Hey, you guys brought up something I had forgotten about many moons ago. I don't like the style of my sport trac badge on the tailgate, does anyone know where to get a cool looking one instead? I agree with Tom that it's not an explorer it's a SPORT TRAC!
