I got into mountain biking this summer - Big Time!! Actually, I've lost count how many trails I've rode on. There are a ton in London that are worth spending a lot of time on, afterall it IS called the "forest city."

I just wanted to raise some awareness to this sport incase anybody is considering picking up a new hobby. It is very rewarding, allows you to experience nature much more often, and even allows you to tinker, modify, and do maintenance on your bike (which may not necessarily be a good thing to some of you).

Heres a (crappy) picture of my bike. I only bought an entry level ride to get into the sport and to see if I enjoyed it enough to upgrade next spring. I think its safe to say I have and will.

I sure put it through its paces this year.

I have several.

Bianchi Limited

Panasonic Mountain Cat

Homemade Schwinn-framed Tandem (take two Schwinn frames, and a torch...)

Beater Next suspended mountain bike

various frames as I try to find the time to build up a recumbent

Wife has WalMart mountain bike

Son has two or three BMX types

I started doing research on these about 2 months ago. I want a bike I can ride in the city to and from work. I also want something that I can take on easy trails with my fiance. My brother in law is huge into racing and he has a ton of bikes. Last I knew, at least 7. His latest creation has set him back a cool 2g's.

I loved riding my bike when I was a kid and I really want to get back into it next spring.

psycareyo,

I always loved riding as a kid too, and then transitioned into BMX during highschool, broke myself and got out of sports for the most part when I went to University.

Now that I've been done school for a few years I've gotten back into sports and stuff. Mountain bike riding just seemed to be a perfect fit. I realized that I forgot how much I missed being on a bike when I started riding in the spring. You will too!!

I still have my old 1992 Haro Escape mountain bike from school. I put a lot of mods into it then and it is still kicking.

I have a Jamis - Dakar. It's taken everything I've thrown at it so far. Just got back from Whistler (British Columbia), did the bike park there - Highly recommended!!! Its a beautiful town. The 1850mi Drive in the Track was awesome also!

Ya know what really sucks about the hole thing.

I bought the STA because it didn't have that stupid bike rack. LOL. Now I'm gonna need it :p

GT Backwoods now... I think you can see it right behind the grill there... just look hard.. :p..

I used to ride for Kovachi wheels back in the day (ABA) Though back then I was riding a GT Pro series or Mach one... Benefit of living across the street from a BMX track when I was a kid, all i did was ride. I don't get out as much anymore but wish I could...

I have a Specialized Hard Rock Classic. Probably has around 10,000 miles on it over about 12 years. Would recommend that brand to anyone.

I have the Ford in-bed bike mount for the Sport Trac, and love it. Or rather, I loved it, until my family grew to the point (added a wife and three kids) where there isn't enough room in the vehicle for a biking vacation for everyone. We now have a tow hitch-mounted rack instead, which can hold 5 bikes, leaves the bed open for luggage, and can go on any vehicle with a hitch. (I think I still have the bed-mounted rack around somewhere, if anyone's looking for one, I can likely swing you a decent deal.)

I have a BRAND NEW Specialized full suspension rig sitting in the garage at my Tahoe house, has 20 miles on it... I bought it LAST YEAR! My g/f's too... We just don't have the time to ride much with having two businesses to run, and her in college, and a kart racing habit to support. (And I have a BAD racing habit... over $60k in the last year on it.) And I just bought a Stock Moto package to go road racing in next year.... Now I can go 120mph inches off the ground!

I have a Turner Afterburner downhill bike that I rode to 2nd place in the Amateur Nationals a few years back and still race when I can find the time, I also have a Giant VT1 that I use to train. My wife has a GT XCR LE. I can't think of better way to stay in shape and have fun.

Dave

I think I have a Trek, I haven't ridden much since we had the 1st baby, and with another on the way I don't think I'll have any more time then either. At least we have a trailer to tow the offspring with when we can go...

Right now I have:

Jamis Xenith Pro (road bike)

Jamis Aurora (touring road bike)

Giant Trance 4 (MTB)

I've upgraded the trance with a Rock Shox Reba fork and hydraulic disc brakes.

I haven't ridden singletrack in about 4 years due to back issues, but for the 10 years prior, I owned a couple of Cannondales (F300, F700), and my current bike is a Gary Fisher Sugar. The full suspension helped the back, but the ground was just as hard, maybe harder ;-)
