Most of the price differences are based on the different State, County, and City taxes. The other portion is related to any special gasoline blends required in your area and transportation.

That still does not account for why gas prices here are falling while throughout most of the nation, the prices are creaping up??? On the news this morning they indicated that there are some places where gas is still only $1.90, yet it never got below $2.00 anywhere around here and $2.05 is as low as I have seen a couple of years?

It's because OPEC is monkeying around with production. They didn't like how the price of a barrel of crude dropped dramatically after Labor Day. Back then, it was pushing $70/barrel, and it dropped below $60 after Labor Day due to the drop in demand and abundant supplies. OPEC decided to cut back on production to level off the decline.

TrainTrac,

That's not true. If OPEC cut oil production, we would all feel the pinch of higher gas prices, but that is not what is happening. Yes, some locations are seeing some slight increases in gas prices while some see no change, and other like here are seeing the prices drop. That does not jive with lower oil production unless demand has continued to drop in certain areas of the country??

In metro detroit, we've been hovering around 2.19 for quite some time.

I put $50 in the avalanche this morning for $2.16, and only a mile down the road it was $2.29.

It's Bush's fault or maybe the Democrats or Exxon or the Muslims or ...... oh hell, what does it matter. We're going to buy it no mater what the cost is.

Up about 10¢ on average since the election...a steady increase of a cent or two every few days.

The primary "blame" is speculators driving the price of crude up because of the power-shift of the election and the possible ramifications should less oil company and Middle East friendly legislation get soon passed...though I think that's bunk. Many like to say "supply and demand", but I don't count "speculation" as true supply and demand...its FUD!
