Well, my search for a cheap cutom made 12" sub box is over, finding one was harder then I thought. So I have to resort to the already made internet boxes. but which is louder in bass, the dual 8"s or the single 10"??? Thanks in advanced.

To me, it depends on a few things. Type of speaker, right sized box for the spaekers, and most of all the Amp. So really, 2-8" subs that are name brand with a good amp will sound "louder" than a cheap 10" with a mediocre amp. ;)

My Cwells box with 2 8's hits harder and cleaner than most 10 setups and some 12's i have heard...

As many car audio enthusiasts say, theres no replacement for displacement... granted, 8s arent too impressive at moving air but together u have 16 inches vs 10 with just 1 10... but myself, i get 130dB with just 1 10 at 250 rms...

Good luck,

Andy

in the proper box two 8" drivers will blow away a single 10. Given a 10" driver will hit about 5-10Hz lower than any 8" the frequencies that it goes down to really aren't all that audible in everyday music.

My answer is go 2 - 8's, when I worked at Futureshop (your best buy) I hit 136dB with my two 8's, which is crazy impressive.

Oh by the way.. most important things to consider are (properly spec'd enclosure for your subs, don't get 10 dollar subs, spend the money.. not a ton, but jl 8w0 or kicker 8" comps are great, amplifier power (i'm running 800W RMS into my two 8's) and finally signal input.. you need a good deck with a good input voltage on the RCA levels.

As stated above the system components matter most.. I have built and tested 6 different enclosure styles in my ST. The one I am most happy with now is my 2 10" setup. Because we are so restricted to space. you have to decide whether you want to keep your 5 passenger setup, or go to 4 or less. I myself kept the stock setup, and am using a 1.25 cubic foot enclosure with 2 10's.

But what works the best with our ST's is the rubber floors, it lets the bass resonate better throughout the vehicle. So you want to downfire your woofers. I personally have my woofers 1.75 inches off the floor downfiring, and on a new termlab meter did a 133.6 (Termlabs are usually around 4-6DB lower than conventional meters so it would have been around 137.6 - 139.6 on a standard).

I have done an enclosure with dual 8's and a single 10 and metered both. The 8's I used were rockford fosgate P2's and on the termlab I did a 130.1 (decent for 8's) and that was 2 P2 8's with a fosgate 500 watt mono amplifier wired @ 4 ohms. I did a single fosgate P1 10 in a 1.2 cubic foot box, with a circle port out the side (towards the door) and it did pretty good for a single ten at a whopping 131.5 with a fosgate p 3002 300 watt amplifier. All these numbers posted arent from different meters either, these #'s are from our termlab that we actually hold shows with. So all these #'s are dead on.

If you need any help with measurements just give me a hollar, I think I still have all the dimensions for the dual 8's, the single 10, and the dual 10.

Oh yea, and to build each of these boxes without carpet i think it costs right around 25 bucks per box....

If you're in the sharing mood I'll take the plans for the dual 8's and dual 10's. I haven't decided which to go for but I'd definitely like to go with 10's if the space permits. I'm at [email protected] if you could send 'em when you get a minute I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Jeconomou, did the single 10 ported fit under the trac seat??? Id rather have a slotted port, is that possible? 1.0-.1.5 cu ft...Do u/ can u make them? its for a 10w3v2

Thanks

Andy

Steve:

I will be more than happy to post those on here, or send them to your email.. I just have to find them, and theres the fact that just to type this much has taken me about 15 minutes cause I am typing this message inbetween calls right now. LOL!!

Andy:

Yes, all my boxes are all under seat. I just removed the legs off the rear seat, and let the seat sit on the box. (It has proven fine, as I had 2 friends 1 350lbs and the other about 200lbs for about 3 hours and the box is perfect).

After looking at the specs from the 10w3v2 you will have to get into a little more. That woofer has a 5.75 mounting depth. But after looking through JL's website I found something you could do pretty easily.. You could switch to the 10w1v2 which is a 4.34 mounting depth. Then it would be much easier to build a slot loaded enclosure. Jl's website calls for a 1 cubic ft enclosure, for the 10w1. and with the port included jl reccommends 1.31 (port volume included/ internal volume) and the box I built is 1.25 (pretty close). Jl is also recommending 12 sq. inches of port area for their vented enclosure which you could easily do.. Give me some time and Ill try and build you a quick blueprint for the box, so you can see what im talking about...

And sorry if some stuff doesnt go quite together, I think this post has taken me all in all about 45 minutes... I am getting confused typing about car audio and talking to customers about the same thing..... uhg.

This is the sub box I have in my truck right now, I know its not very good, I did it in like 5 minutes while on break... :D . I will see if I can dig out my other boxes and post them up. I will also have them in my library. and the end caps are longer to compensate for the center hump that is in the ST.

So this is the Dual 10"? If I could do dual 10" that would be awesome, My step-dad worked on isntalling car audio for about 3 yrs., so he knows enough to help me get it going right, but dimensions for the box wasn't in his knowledge. Thanks a bunch.
