The wipers on my 2010 Limited started up while I was driving yesterday and they won't shut off. I wiggled everything, banged around, shook the tilt wheel, etc., but could not get them off until I pulled the relay. (Funny- manual showed which fuse operated the wipers, but there wasn't a fuse in that slot!).

Gonna take it in tomorrow and let the dealer have at it. 5200 miles and it is falling apart!

Gavin, Thats the new automatic self cleaning function... It must have detected some dirt on the window that wouldnt come off...

Sorry, I will reprimand myself for that comment... Gavin :smack: Dave

Don't you just lose the "just because it is new does not mean it will have no issues"....

I can handle what I call "big" things very well. It is the small things that get me frustrated as in most cases, they should never had happened...

Not sure if that's a self cleaning function or water detection? To clean the winshield it would take using the windshield washer fluid...just starting the wipers typically does not clean the windshield.

My Mercedes has rain/water sensors that detect and measure the amount of moisture on the windshield and if the wipers are set in the auto mode, will turn on the wipers. For a few drops or a light mist it turns the wipers on intermittentend mode and turns off when the windshield is dry. If it starts to rain harder the wipers speed up automatically to keep the windshield clear. I like the system so well that I just keep the wiper switch set to auto and the car does all the rest

Unless the relay simply stuck in the closed position and removing it fixed it...
