XCal 2......Pinging

I have an 07 V8 and have been having a problem with my 93 Torque and 93 Performance tunes pinging.



When I first installed the performance tune, there was no problems.....then I would get some intermittent pinging (hard to hear sometimes....rides quiet).



I tried installing the torque tune and get pinging on medium grades (hills) but not at WOT.



I have backed down the timing by 2 at low rpms, 2 at mid level and 1 at high rpms and still get the pinging.



Using the 93 mileage tune.....no pinging.



I was thinking of backing it down some more, but how far can / should I go? Any suggestions?

Gordi, just wondering, how long have you had the Xcal2? When did the pinging start? Do they use winter gas in FL?

You have two components here that could be a part of the problem given that you have access to decent quality / proper octane fuel.



Spark advance being too far advanced or a lean condition by the tuner commanding an AF ratio that is too lean.



Without knowing the AF under WOT or logging the spark advance curve you can't really guess what is the exact culprit.

Well, I re-tuned the truck taking -3 timing at 0-2000 RPM and the pinging has stopped. This is the only time I was getting detonation, so I put the 2000-4000 and 4000-6000 back to the original tune setting. I will be towing my camper this weekend and will see how it goes.
