Thought this was interesting! New data from JD Power on the new 07 ST (report 3/1-4/30 study):

"The Sport Trac’s buyer is more mature than the average age of its

competitors. Ridgeline, Dakota, and Colorado all have an average age of 47. Tacoma and

Frontier have the youngest buyer age and Sport Trac and Colorado have the lowest % of

male buyers."

Guess this puts me still in my mother's womb? "More immature" maybe. hehe

I'm not sure how to interpret that last part on % male buyers. Looks like we need to up the testosterone levels eh? (Or Kalama is skewing us WAY to the other side!!!)

I believe they said the same thing about the last model ST as well. I don't know how they compile thier data. Maybe it is by who registers the vehicle?? So I guess this means that mostly grandmothers are buying and driving the Sport Trac?? If 47 is the avaerage age of buyers for those other models, and the Sport Trac buyer is more "mature"... No offense to anyone, but that seem a lot older than the target audience that Ford is shooting for. Seems like the Crown Vic/Continental buyer group to me.....

LOL - Tom, *you* the GIRLIEMON!!!

Actually, Ranger's got a very similar profile (male, median age 45, etc.). How weird is that?

That's one of those stats that doesn't seem quite right. Maybe influenced by how they collect their data.

On another note, I see some local dealers now have STs with "Power Sliding Rear Windows" and the nav system.

well even on here... from the meet pics etc.... i didnt see alot of young bucks... no offense to anyone...

what is OUR average age.

Im 26!

When I first bought my first 2001 Sport Trac, I noticed, and commented that most of the other Sport Trac's I had seen on the road where driven by women. I guess that has not changed in 7 years.

I would have to think that those that are younger that drive Trac's have a thing called work to get in the way of going to meets. Also, those that have vacation time, they try to use it with the family or friends during other times of the year.

Tom

One would think that Ranger would be a good entry-level vehicle (which it is) for younger buyers, though the ST pricerange would be a little cost-prohibitive. Guess only mid-lifers are the ones that can afford 'em! :p

...Ranger sales still continue to fall and Ford wonders why thier market share is slipping lower and lower...

Tom

Here's some other info from the same report:

"The bulk of this segment’s buyers are 35-50. Frontier and Tacoma have

most buyers under 35. Sport Trac has the least buyers under 35. Ridgeline garners most of

it’s buyers in 40-45 range than any other range. Sport Trac has largest % of buyers over 55."

Wow, twist the knife, why don't they? :p

Ugh, well I'm not going to contribute to the RLs #s once I hit the big 40. That's one fugly vehicle.

From my observations with coworkers, many of whom buy trucks, they simply don't understand the utility of the ST. Often they think they need more bed size than the ST. Originally, I thought so too and that's why I wanted an F150 SuperCrew. I then made a list, along with dimensions, of all the things I have hauled, or thought I might haul, and it turns out the ST will haul everything I need (4x8 plywood, recliner, mattresses, refrigerator, gas grille, coolers, dirtbikes, 4-wheeler, desk, bookcase, table, big screen TV, lattice, 2x4s, mulch, bricks, decorative stone, sand, gravel, trees, shrubs, bicycles, fishing gear, treestands, bowcase, deer, elk) go offroad to most hunting/camping sites and still make a nice vehicle for commuting to work or going places with the family. IF the ST were advertised, and the ads helped to educate potential buyers about the actual utility and flexibility, Ford could probably sell quite a few more than they do, to all age groups. That, and they have to overcome the quality perception vs Japanese cars.

Now if they would hurry up and get those job 2s out I could do it all to the music of a V8. :D

You right on the money, PRM. Only needed a bigger truck once in the last two years. But, you seem to have forgotten about the row boat filled with a day's worth of picnic supplies in your list of items.......... With room left inside for five picnicers.

I think that it means that the Sport Trac buyers are smarter than the average buyer of the copy cat vehicles. I say average because I know there are some on here that may have the other or not have ST's, but I include you in the smarter field.:lol: I hope I worded that so I did'nt step on any toes so to speak. I feel it is you own choice. There are some vehicles I think are just ugly and some I don't like, but other people like them, so thats fine by me.:D

I'm seeing a lot of STs in my area, more then I had seen over the past year. A large % are drivin by women ( probably 50-60%) Most men in my area drive 150s and above ( a lot of farms aand commercial vehicles). I think with the price tag on a ST being as high as it is, there are more desirable vehicles out there for kids. I know I had wanted one since they first came out (I was 24) but couldn't afford one until I was 29 and then only by chance.

I'm 62....I have always had pickups, the last was an 03 Super Crew Lariat....I think as one gets older we want to hang on to something we feel comfortable with....The ST is much more manuaverable than F-150 and can haul anything I have hauled in the F-150, It will tow my jon boat and I can take all the grandkids, together somewhere and it's a nice overtheroad vehicle too....And it's just edgy and different enough while still being socially acceptable to fit my life style....After I make it growl next week it will be even better....I think Ford is missing the boat in not targeting an older customer, we don't all like Crown Vics!....but want something that fits our personality better....remember we're Boomers -we're weird, we're here and you better get used to it!....now if that chrome instrument cluster trim would stop reflecting in my cataratic scarred eyes the driving experience would be a little more enjoyable....cc

Our first ST is registered in my wifes name but I drive it like 99% of the time. Also the loan was in her name. I was 32 when we got it. The new one will have both in both of our names. :)
