Just bought my first ST 3 weeks ago and love it! Its a 07, and i previously owned an xm radio in my old car, and I want to install it in my ST, but I cannot completely unsnap the black panel that surrounds the radio and climate controls to get to the back of the radio. I can unsnap the top half of the plate, but near the bottem is seems to be held by something other than the clips that hold the top half of it on. Any info on how to remove this panel would be great!

Hi,

I just bought one too....sorry I can't help with the radio, the one I took out of my old truck is going into one of my street rods, it has XM and MP3....but I have a question for you. Have you driven your ST where the sun is reflecting off the chrome ring around the instrument cluster and into your eyes? Mine is VERY distracting when it does that. I have some flat chart tape on the top of the ring now to prevent it temporally but I was courious if anyone else has the same problem? It also reflects off the A/C outlet chrome....I also don't like the position of the door pull, it's too low on the door....what say you? Good luck on the radio.

so far i have not had any reflection problems with any of the rings on the dashboard. there are a few times that the crome piece on the shifter and ring on the shifter has distracted me a little, but not to the point where i need to do anything about it. as far as the door pull handle, i do find it a little awkward, but i have gotten use to it and really dont think anything of it anymore. so far i am very happy with it and if i really had to question anything about it would be the storage bins in the bed, i knew they were small, but they seem a bit too small to really put anything in them, they are usable though, there were a couple of items i was hopeing to put in there that would not fit.

I filled the two rear ones with sand! The extra weight takes the edge off the empty truck and in the winter it may come in handy in the snow. I know I pay a miliage penalty, I am going over the road later this month and will run with and without to see if the penalty is to hateful.

To remove the radio bezel, follow the pictures in the link below. There are 6 snaps that hold it. The top 2 are easy, the bottom 4 are not. You must remove the center console top in order to squeeze the pull on the bottom of the radio bezel enough to get it out. Pics should have enough detail to show this.

There is no XM auxilliary input that will work. The FRD04AUX by PIE does not work, I tried it. The only option I decided to go with was the AVIC-Z1.

Thank you very much Pat. Those pics should be good enough for me, I will try and tinker around with it this weekend. The xm unit I am using is just the SKYFi Universal Adaptor FM Modulator, so I really just need to get to the antenna plug in the back of the factory radio, then find a place to mount the SKYFi unit. Thanks again for your help!

Hey Pat, just wondering if you had the XM radio unit connected to your OEM stereo, and if you are able to use it with the AVEC-Z1? I am wanting to get the Z1, but want to make sure I can use my factory XM radio and factory amp & sub.

Hi Bill,

I had an external XM reciever that I used in my old ST. When I bought my '07, I had just the 6CD MP3 player with stock subwoofer. I didn't get the Sirius satellite option. So, I needed something to connect XM. There was nothing out there, so I decided on the AVIC-Z1 to get XM plus more. There is word that ZERK is coming out with an aux input for the existing stock radio. But, I'm very happy with the Z1. It is connected to my factory sub and stock speakers. It sounds better than stock with multiple EQ options, so you can tweak it just right. VERY happy!
