I have heard a number of tales about Progressive that convinces me that I don't want any of their insurance.

One of the members here had Progressive and hit a deer with his ST about 5 years ago. He hit the deer with the front corner of the drivers side fender and it messed up his bumper hood, fender, and the deer's legs spun around and hit the driver's door as well. Progressive refused to pay for the damage to the door stating that it was impossible for the door to be damaged by striking the deer?

I think he finally got them to pay for the door repairs as well, but then took it to the body shop they recommended (who would do it for what they paid) and they had to do the job 2 or 3 times because of their shoddy workmanship. The paint looked like they used a mop or a roller, and they did not repair his keyless entry keypad that was damaged by hitting the deer.

You never know how good an insurance company is until you file a claim, and Progressive has a very bad reputation for treating customers and claimants like they are crooks!.

Most states have a State Insurance Board or Commission that regulates how Insurance companies do business in your state. I would report them to that agency. It may not do you any good but if there are enough complaints, perhaps the state will go after them.

I went ahead and filed a complaint with the Georgia Insurance Commissoner and called my own insurance company to get my payoff started. I have never wanted to stick-it so badly to an insurance company in all my life. How do they get away with it in this country? Too much politics in insurance just like everything else I guess. It causes the scamming to get overlooked..... I have hired an attorney to handle my medical claims, so hopefully he can get more out of them than I could!

Someone please explain this to me....

How come Ford, GM and Chrysler don't have their own auto insurance companies (ala Ford Credit for financing)?

Wouldn't it make sense since they have the collission centers, and the service centers, and sell the cars? Wouldn't such a dynamic set in place a vested interest in creating quality, improving safety, reducing repair costs, etc?

Or would the Consumer Protection Agency frown on that as it could create a conflict of interest, what with the same company that produces the cars also insuring them?

I have progressive. The few times I needed them, they took care of everything with no questions asked.

Allstate are scumbags. I have delt with them on more then one occasion and have threatened them to get what is fair. Nationwide Insurance are not as bad as Allstate, but the slime on the belly of a salamander is higher class then they are. Those SOB's cancelled Dad's homeowners insurance after being with them for 50 years without one single claim. They cited some things that were against code. We had the agent stop out and look at them. He found no fault. He turned it in. A month later, we got a new list. Same thing, called the agent, he came out and checked everything and found no fault. A month later, we got another letter from Nationwide saying that they no longer want to insure us.

Dad had to find a new insurance company. Would you beleve that when dad told 4 different agents from 4 different companies what happened, they all said to him... "You just turned 70 didn't you". They all implied, without saying, it is common for Nationwide to cancel your policy when you get a certain age. They say it is because of other reasons, but since the agent was there and looked at the situation, I tend to beleve that the statement was true.

TJR,

I know that GM does have insurance for people who finance through them because I bought their insurance when I bought a new car (a number of years ago). The rates were great at the time, but I think it may be available only in some states.

I think Ford Credit offers insurance as well since I have gotten several letters from Ford stating that insurance was available even though my 2003 Sport Trac is not financed through them, but my 2001 Sport Trac was. Perhaps they still think I own the 2001 ST?? :)

FWIW, I will never use (Pro)Regressive anyways due to the fact as someone else sated earlier about the liberal policies of the CEO. We have our rights, he has his, I have mine.

I wasn't making any political judgements. If you agree with him, then buy your insurance from them. If you don't, then don't. Just letting people know where some of their money is going.

OTOH, the Ford family and foundation is quite liberal regarding who and what they support as well.

Probably guilt from all the SUV's and pickups they sell. ;)

Don't get me started on insurance. I own a small company and my workmens' comp costs $1300 a month...we have a real good record and my rates went up 30% a year each of the last 3 years. then I lose business to people who work under-the-table for half because they're not paying taxes and insurance.
