deleting codes

could someone tell me how i can delete the codes without going to the dealer?

Remove the battery cables for about 30 min.

Resetting the computer should reset the codes, but if there is a prob. the codes will come back.



This worked for me one time when I had my fuel injectors cleaned and it tripped a code.

No prob......if the codes come back up, go someplace like autozone and have them read, then come back here and post them. Someone will be able to tell you what the codes mean and what you should do to get the prob fixed.

well, i already got the codes at Autozone and i did what this mech....told me to start out with doing before i reset them and hopefully i solved the problem

k........what did the mech tell you to do? What caused the prob?

i had a k&n filter in it that i havent cleaned it and said to get rid of it and put the new wix in it,...and yes the k&n was extremely dirty....so im starting with that,....the worst of it all is it is pass due for inspection,....but we will see if this works cause some one else was trying to tell me that it was two of my o2 sensers....

Well...if the check light comes back on, you'll have to get it read again. If the codes are the same then maybe the sensors are the issue.



In the meantime.....watch out for Smokey.

The dirty filter was not the problem. Most likely the dirt from the filter got the MAF dirty. Get some contact cleaner safe for plastics or buy maf cleaner and carefully wash the wires inside the MAF. Clean the K&N re-oil it. Dont over oil it or you will dirty the MAF again.

well, ok i got some maf cleaner but i didnt use it cause it didnt seem it was dirty....so im suppose to go ahead and use it and while the engine is running?

Not while the engine is running. Let it evaporate before startup.

The reason I said most likely the MAF. A recent article I read, they ran a test. The air filter had to be almost 80% blocked before it could throw any codes. Or cause serious milage and drivability problems, under normal driving conditions. They made a statment though that the dirt saturation could migrate to the MAF. I suppose the symtom is the dirty filters fault. The MAF would need to be cleaned along with filter replacment or cleaning.

The test was done on a 4 banger Ford, GM and VW.

Cant remember where the article was. I was suprised at the 80% after all we hear about dirty filters affecting millage and performance.

Then my dislaimer is I might be full of it. Or there test was.

so am i suppose to take it off the the truck (with the star screws) and spray the crap out of it and let it set to dry and then put it back on,....and then am i going to have to reset the computer again like the light was still on,..cause ive only gone 5 miles since i reset?

You can spray it by taing the intake hose loose. Or raising the uper lid to the air box. It will dry fairly quik. If the light doesnt come on. You wont have to reset.
