I recently had some issues changing my fuel filter. Both of the connectors on the inlet sode of the filter broke as I tried to remove them. I purchased aftermarket connetors to replace the stock ones. this required me to cut the fule lines and attach the new line and connector using a metal compression fitting. I had the work checked out by a mechanic to make sure i did it correctly.

It has been a few weeks and I now have a faint fuel smell comingh from my truck, upon visual inspection i cannot locate a leak. However, I am now fearful that I may have

'Switched" the fuel lines when replacing them with the aftermarket connectors as one of the inlets is bigger than the other. Does anyone know why i have two fuel lines to the filter and what the difference is between the two? It will require a great deal of effort to remove the connectors and switch the lines so i want to understand what the reason is before i move forward.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The bigger line is a fuel vapor line that runs to the evapcanister and the purge control valve on the engine if you had them reversed it would not run

No check engine light? Fuel smell is usually a fault in the EVAP system that throws p0400 series codes. Most common are the rear canister, purge valve under the battery, or hoses.

I bet the purge valve as well. I had it go bad in mine and on occasion I was getting a faint fuel smell in the garage. Do you ever have any hard starts after fueling up? That was the other symptom I was having when my purge valve was going bad.

Doesn't take much of a leak to leave a smell. You may have to get a visual on every connection, line, etc. Be sure to check the filler pipe and connections- often there are problems there after the years and miles.

When you have 2 fuel lines coming into the fuel filter and one exiting the filter that usually indicates that the fuel flter is what actually controls the fuel pressure. If the lines got switched up due to replacing the fittings I don't know that that would be that much of an issue.
