I am back from New Orleans

Hey all I am back, Due to a death in the family i couldnt stay the alloted 2 weeks i had. I got back today Sept 17 2005. It was bad down there. I went to Mississippi and dropped off some things as well. I cant say anyone is worse off then someone else becuase it happened all down there. Everyone needs help and not just one person is getting it. Everyone bringing flack to this topic should be ashamed becuase what are you doing to help down there. I took time outta my life and went down there to make a little difference and ya know what I left outta there a happy person because i know I made one or two familys a litte happier. Im not trying to say noone is doing anything but comeone folks, yeah i know i said folks lol but serious, everyone down there needs help. If everyone can come together on 9-11 then i cant see why we cant do it down there. Im done rambling

I don't know of anyone that gave yu any flack about you going to help. Many,. including myself, thanked you for doing that.



If you are wondering what people think about a death in the family, get real. Death happens. We don't choose when we are going to die. If it were that way, I think I would pick October 18, 2985. I could not imagine anyone giving you crap for anything.

Glenn, sorry about your family member. Feeling kinda down right because my sister is on her death bed as I type. Tom show a little compassion for him, have you lost your parents or a sibling? If not, you will find out someday how it feels. Gary D. in Ct.

Gary, you are right. I was thinking one thing, but wrote another. I know how it feels to loose a loved one. My girlfriends mother died of Liver Cancer. We watcher her suffer until the prayers went from, "please God make her better" to "Please God, just take her life so she no longer has to suffer".



What I was trying to convey, if he is worried about what people think about him coming home early because of a death in the family, forget about. It isn't like the person that died chose that day to die. Death happens, everyone knows and understands that it happens.



It was not writen with any ill-intent.

I think Glenn is referring to the blame game that has been going on in the press. A lot of folks have taken sides on this issue, and I'm guessing he would rather see us put our energies into doing something constructive, rather than tearing each other down by arguing. I agree with that view.



My job doesn't allow me to just hop in the ST and drive to the disaster area, but I have done other things, such as donate money to the effort.

It's a huge job Glenn. I am happy that there are people like you that are there helping them out. My next door neighbor left yesterday for a month to go help out the victims. I'll be watching his house while he is gone.



Also, I forgot to tell you I am sorry to hear about your family emergency. My thoughts will be with you this week, because I know it will be a tough one.

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunatly, the media doesn't seem to care about those in Mississippi. The Gulf Port, Biloxi, and Pascagoula areas are special to me. I did alot of work at Ingalls in Pascagoula and spent time in Biloxi at the Casino's. I would love to take supplies down, but I just cant get away. So, I do the next best thing I can do.



I donate to the cause. The dealer that Theresa works for is donating a brand new Ford Excursion 4x4 to the Red Cross. The value of the Expedition is just under $50,000.00. It will be filled with food for the relief efforts. The owner has already sent one truck-load of food there. The Excursion is next.



I, personally, think the owner of the dealer went way beyond the call of duty. The Excursion is sitting in the back of the lot. If Theresa did not work there, I don't know if anyone even knows about the Excursion. They have employees of a Chevy dealer and a Nissan dealer donating items and has said that thier dealer is not even accepting donations. That is truly sad.



A Honda dealer is taking up a collecion for the relief efforts. They are towing a trailer to the area to assist. I think they are almost full. They have a large trailer full and the bed of a truck full of food and water. That brand new F-150 is really loaded down.

Tom, thank you for explaining. Just spent the day watching my sister lying in bed dying from cancer. I'm not sure if she knew we were all there for her. In my first reply, I was feeling pretty down, because I knew we were going to see her, now we are waiting for the phone call. Gary

First - Glenn your a good man. So is Tom, but a little misunderstood. As usual, NelsonOKC gets it and explains it.



I think the biggest difference between the responses to Katrina and 9-11 is that NYC didn't have five days of warning that Atta and his goons were on the way.



Right or wrong, a lot of people are looking at New Orleans and seeing a lack or preparation and leadership (on all levels) exacerbating the situation.



I go to NOLA three or four times every year and I love that town, but I see where those folks are coming from. kind of.



Bottom line, NO ONE anticipated 9-11, while EVERYONE anticipated a big hurricane hitting NOLA.



Right or wrong, I truly believe that is in a lot of American minds.



PS - If anyone wants to trot out your Howard Dean-Bush knew-9-11 conspiracy theories, please just put your tinfoil hat back on and spare us your lunacy. :lol:

Glenn, it was awsome of you to go down there. Just last night my dad got some pictures from one of our aunts of my Grandpa's house. "Sludge" is still about 5ft deep inside, and it went up to about a few inches from the ceiling. My parents said I will probably be spending my Thanksgiving break down there helping to clean up and tear down my grandpa's house. They're living in my old room back home, and are staying "indefinitely" so I was told.



Anyways, just wanted to say thanks because it's people like you that make this country one of the best places in the world in which to live. Thanks!

No hard feelings. Like I said, Theresa lost her mother to Liver Cancer. It started as colon cancer that went through the wall of her intestine and attacked the liver. They took her to The Cleveland Clinic, one of the best hospitals in the world, and they were told that there is nothing they can do and to try to live the rest of her life out and do as much as she can to enjoy the rest of her life. She lived one year.



She went from a vibrant woman to a bag of bones. She could not walk, she was yellow in color, could not eat or drink. She died at home, right where she wanted to die. They were able to call thier preist out to read her the last rites and a few minutes later, she closed her eyes.



I am personally dealing with something that, quite possibly, could be the beginning of the end with my mom. Hopefully they found it in time. Before she starts any treatment, she will need to travel to Germany to visit her mother.



I know how you feel.



My biggest problem is that I think faster then I type. I really have a hard time conveying my thoughts to words and many times it just doesn't come out the way I want it to.



Sometimes I might sound like a jerk, but really I am one of the most helpful person there is.

Too bad we all couldn't use the phone at once so we could hear the inflection in our voice and words, it does make a difference when you hear it rather than read it.
