Not sure if you all watched, but the car came out in pretty bad shape. The car was covered in mud and rust.

The time capsule came out in great condition. The 46 star flag came out pristine!!

To answer the question......it rusted away......

Pictures in link below (if it works)...

It reminds me of the old church story about where the wise man builds his house....

The foolish man buried is car within a pit:

It doesn't look that bad.

I would be willing to bet one of todays care it would have been a pile of rust and plastic.

Just think, if it can be salvaged, there's less than 10 miles on the odometer.

I bet there's a bit of hope for it if someone is willing to invest the time and money. Anyone notice the spot on the front bumper that they polished up?

I did. That is what prompted me to make the comment I made. It doesn;t look that bad. The metal on todays cars rust through. Those days, it was surface rust.

I am interested on seeing what it looks like AFTER the grime has been removed. I bet the body is better than most people think. Worst case scenerio, it needs a new interior.

Imagine if they would have put a Toyota in there. That thing would be pristine.

I wish old cars only had surface rust...They rust through just as bad as any other car. The thicker metal just makes better sharp edges waiting to poison your blood.
