OT: More CNN News about Hypocrisy...Flaming Kittens!

Yup, Mud Flap, we have told ourselves that the method of killing animals matters and that there are more humane ways of killing animals and we should be humane. So, when we kill a cuddly little kitten, the only acceptable way is to gas it or to give it some sleepy shot at the vets. But for less cuddly animals, we pull out all the stops. Killing rats is a good example...we do some pretty vile stuff to them. Ever see those "stick-on" traps...rats actually gnaw their own legs off to release themselves. Humane? No! Only difference between the two...the value we place on the animals we are killing.



I won't disagree that we treat different animals differently. I suppose we always will..heck, much of the world is still treating different PEOPLE of different races and religions with the same, rationalized varying valuations. Why should I think we will think of the animal kingdom any differently any time soon!

The world is coming to an end. I agree with Caymen wholeheartedly. If I ain't gonna eat it and it is not a threat to life or limb, it lives. Now, if I was hungry, I would have no problem killing a deer, or a cat for that matter, by bullet or bludgeoning, humane or not. I think the real issue is the reason, not the method.



Had a snake in the kitchen a while ago - tossed it over the fence.

I don't kill rats with sticky paper... when we use to have mice in our cabin in N.C., I used a pellet gun and took one shot at the mice's head... clean kill... humane? I think so.



I don't care if the animal is cute or not... if it <b>has</b> to die (deemed by the "better" species) then it will. I will not be bitten by a rabid squirrel in order to not kill it. I will put it down. I will kill a cute bunny rabbit for food (and have)... I will also kill another human in order to protect myself... I don't care what it is... if I can rationalize it and feel it's for the better, then I will do it. I will die in 40 to 50 years, if I am lucky, and nothing is going to stop that... unless a higher power or smarter species deems it. I am not speaking of humans... we're all dumb and animals at the core...

Sorry, but if it is ugly- it dies. Spiders, roaches, flies, worms, snakes, mice, rats, etc. in my house all die. A cute baby rabbit or kitten in my house would probably be captured and carried out to the yard.



If I catch a snapping turtle or gar on my trotline, it dies.



I have no problem killing ugly animals.
