Speaks for itself.

(I apologize if this was previously posted - I've been a little out of touch due to family issues.)

So, did you object as strongly to the constant bashing of Clinton when he was in office, or is this a recent sensitivity?

Just want to understand just how you really see things...

Personally, I think it's always been part of all politics to poke fun at those in power. From the Emperor's New Clothes to the early sixties comedy albums about the Kennedy's to the jokes about Ted Kennedy to the jokes about Clinton's sexual habits to the current jokes about those currently on top. Get over it.

And liberals don't "become" conservatives either - they get old and their youthful enthusiasm is tempered by reality. Call it conservatism if you want - but that's not what I call it.

IMO, most people are moderates - neither conservative nor liberal. They have varied views, some liberal, some conservative most somewhere in between and all based on their personal experiences. It's the two parties that are trying to convince us we need to pick a side - and that's why I shun party politics.

Yeah, the last VP that made a name for himself was Spiro T Agnew... and we know what that got him! LOL

All of you should be ashamed of yourselves. The poor guy will probably wind up with skin cancer now!

Buck,

They have to bash any way they can, it's standard operating procedure.

Oh well, I was 'forced' to endure the diatribe as I was waiting in the polling line 3.5 hours during the election, as I was outnumbered.

My wife and I were acosted by protesters at the drop off for our mail-in ballot. Apparently, they didn't want us to cast our ballot...in a flippin' primary election. I pulled my jacket away to reveal that in addition to my belief in the first ammendment, I am also a firm supporter of the 2nd. Messers Smith and Wesson stood firmly at my side as we walked to the drop-off box.

Dive,

Are these the liberal version of the conservative "protestors" that try to prevent women from taking advatage to their legal option of an abortion?

To me, there is no difference. They (extremists) exist on both sides of the political spectrum. Anytime someone takes their politics and turns it into dogma - conservative or liberal - they have lost their way and a "I am right, you are wrong and don't deserve to be part of the processs" attitude develops causing them to try to abuse the system. It's pure, 100% bull from either side, IMO.

Chops,

As for the jokes, like I said - did you feel the same way about all the Clinton jokes that were going on a few years back or is this a recent sensitivity? Bashing? If you think this is bashing you are way oversensitive. Want to see bashing? Check out what Abraham Lincoln had to endure in his time.

And at that time, most people didn't see anything wrong with it. Considered it SOP.

In the day I heard - and laughed at - plenty of jokes being told by conservatives about the different liberals in power. I still hear - and laugh at - Hillary jokes today. Never take politics too seriously. It's bad for the digestion.

The only thing I take THAT seriously are the rights afforded us under the Constitution.

For the record. i love the Conan skits where President Bush "tlaks" and that guy on Leno who impersonates the President is hilarious. For some reason, John Stewart just isn't funny to me when he does Bush.

Good satire is funny no matter who is getting skewered.

BTW, I remember President Clinton getting bashed a lot, but not in Newsweek.

I gotta agree . . . that guy on Leno is hilarious. If you blur your eyes slightly, you'd swear it was Bush.

Rocco,

I had nothing on me to suggest that I was either. No bumper stickers, no political pins...nothing. They just assumed I was the opposite of them (I was). They were using it as a "no Iraq war" platform. The ballots covered things like county charter review positions, stadium referendum, and a school board position. Typical liberals.

They never seem to be up on current issues or events.

MikeC,

Now that is funny.

Dive,

I agree. Extremists never seem to be aware of reality no matter who they are. Look at the ones in Iraq (as well as the one's about Iraq.)

And using terms like 'typical liberals' doesn't help you to convince me. That's as stereotyped as 'typical holy rollers' or 'typical gun nuts'. Not everyone that calls herself a liberal is an idiot just like not everyone that calls himself a conservative is intelligent. Both sides are chock full of idiots, geniuses and those well in between.

And of the extremists, none ever think s/he is anything but a genius.

:)

IMO, hardcore satire hurts or angers those it is aimed at. Always has. Always will. Hardcore satire is too close to the truth not to hurt or anger. If it doesn't hurt or anger then it is just caricature - a minor form of satire, but not hardcore satire.
