Well, looks like FL is going to get another one, and the track shows it going straight through my neighborhood (YIKES!).

My Trac IS STILL in the shop, they still don't know what's wrong with it, so therefore it will be there during the 'cane and not at home with me. This whole weekend is turning into a miserable event!!

Florida: Buckle Down!

Yeah, just topped off the gas, and I was excited to see the price was $2.79, and then I thought about how ticked I was that I thought that it was a good price...

Stay safe Josh.

I admit, I don't know squat about lemon laws, but isn't there some time limit for the dealer to have your vehicle in for repairs?

My parents are in Daytona right now for some bike rally. Does anyone know how far Daytona, or Titusville is from where the hurricane is suppose to hit? Stay safe Josh! -Heather

Daytona is on the east coast, last I heard Wilma was heading for Florida's west coast. My folks have a winter home in Ft. Myers and took two good hits last year, but they got by with nothing worse than torn patio screens.

No matter, I'd still move there if I had the chance.

You Florida folks be safe...hope you dont get caught up in the idiotic evac, I did during Rita...90miles in 12hrs...then the storm turned, that was the wrong way to go...spent 5days no elec or water,no gas to get home...should of stayed home...

Those of us who are native and been through "this" dozens of times have it down to a science. Today I'll get my gas on the way home and pick up a few groceries (but most of it is left over from last year). If you live on the coast (in this case west) you pack tomorrow and leave at 3am on Friday to head inland or north (but north will be tougher than east/west on the coast - so go central, then north). If you live in the central part of the state, you just hope it's not another Charlie and open your doors to the relatives and friends from the coast. Fill the bathtubs with additional water, park the trac in the garage, the ranger in the street (hehe....), and just sit and wait for the light show when all the transformers across the city blow. It's quite impressive and entertaining.

The sad thing is that having gone through so many storms in my lifetime, it's just become a way of life. I don't know if I speak for all of us natives (born and raised), but it's hilarious to watch the "newbies" freak out. Like I said in a post a while back, there will not be a "New Orleans" here because we're all seasoned with hurricanes enough to be able to recover (power and water) in a week, two at most (Charley) and our law enforcement and government are a very sensible with studpid people and warn everyone ahead of time.

Good luck to all my fellow Floridians and thank you to everyone for wishing us well. :)

Jenn - Being a transplant myself I still have to laugh at the folks that freak out. It isn't something that is unique to Florida. I think they are the same folks that used to freak out up north when a snow storm would be coming and run out and buy 14 gallons of milk, 24 cases of toilet paper and 10 dozen eggs. For the life of me, I still don’t know what they intended to do with the eggs once they lost power. Unfortunately some people just don't prepare for these things and then over-react to compensate. Can you say Y2K, duct tape for WMD incidents, etc???

My wife and I have a plan to shelter in place for CAT2 or less and have her and the kid (soon to be kids) evacuate prior to a CAT3 or higher. Even though the current track has the storm staying to our south, we will review her possible evacuation routes tonight.

Hey Chuck, you and your family are welcome to our guest bedroom. It's far enough to be safe, but not too far that you can still get home quickly. I can bake cookies!! :)

The reports are stating that the hurricane will pass over Florida and not loose strength as it will be moving quickly. This will be devastating to a narrow swath(sp) across the entire state. I am in Deerfield Beach Florida.

PREMATURE EVACUATION of the Keys- had my whole Key West cataract surgery schedule Thursday cancelled by the hospital-earlier,I gave my patients the choice and 80% would have proceeded. They are flying inpatients to Sebring, which is in the forecast cone as well. I'm no meteorologist, but Wilma is 700+ miles away and moving AWAY from us at a snail's pace of 5 mph. I suppose the Katrina pics have scared the crap out of eveyone. This will be the third time running this year- the price of living in paradise is getting awfully high.....:(

Hang Tight You seasoned Floridians :) Newbies hook up with a "true" native Floridian :D

Seriously though, hope you all are safe and no damage to your homes or families.

I'm in Boca and the gas stations are out of regular gas which is kinda odd because I haven't seen much of a rush for it... But I guess those sneaky old people are to blame . Honestly I hope everyone else in FL stays safe.

Heather,

Go to this link for the latest predictions on Wilma.

Follow the links and enter a zip code near where they are and it will give you

a detailed local map of the storm's projected path...

Heh, I'm stayin here in Punta Gorda.. Charley was the reason that I got a Trac after my car was totalled in the storm.. Hopefully this one won't get us, but that is what we thought before..
