I'm new to the forum, so forgive me if this question has been asked before. (I did a search and couldn't find anything.)

We just bought an '07 Sport Trac XLT. It did not come from the factory with steering wheel controls. My question,... Is the wiring in place in the column and stereo to be able to just add the switches (or replace the steering wheel) and have the switches be operational?

Thanks in advance, I've been lurking for a few weeks now and this is a very informative site.

I've been working and investigating this for some time. If you are talking about the audio controls. I have the audiophile stereo. The wiring is all there on mine. I physically removed the stereo and airbag from the steering wheel to make sure. I have a factory wiring diagram book so I was able to make sure it was all in place. Now for what I know. The radio will most likely have to be programmed to accept the remote switch, but the unit is capable. You CANNOT buy the wiring that goes from the steering switch to the clockspring connector under the airbag. I can make my own wiring, that is no problem. The guys at Walls Ford have been trying to get me the switch for some time. Problem is, Ford has no part number for it as of yet. The only switch you can get at this time will come with voice or some other additional controls. Even though they put the audio only switch in several vehicles now,and all are the same as the Sport Trac, I have not been able to attain one yet. But I know the Guys at Walls are trying to find out why.

Wow, that seems much more complicated than I had hoped.

Ideally I wanted to pop off the plastic piece, plug in the wire sitting right there and put in the new controls!

That's what I was hoping too. Thanks for the replies.

Brad, if Walls comes up with a part number for you, please post it and any other information that you feel would be helpful.
