Sort of a fun joke in the paper today,O is at the airport ticket counter (wallet in hand) with 30K troops behind him.

lady asks as he hands her a card, Sir, will this be credit or Debit:lol:

If everyone actually had to pay for it now instead of borrowing and dumping the debt on our kids, we would not invent reasons to have wars.

Which means that we would never fight another war again. Might as well just scrap the military, since they won't be used for anything besides the term of engagement that can be established by executive order. You expect the majority of Americans to agree to pay for a war directly? That's impossible.

Actually, since that would make all of our troops mercenaries instead of a national army, we could let blackwater defend us. I feel safer already.

The debt is never going to be paid. It can't be, and it won't be, since we can simply take the easier solution of acquiring more debt. Maybe if money actually had to be backed by wealth then we could solve this, but since we're so firmly routed to the fractional reserve system, that's just a wish :(

Sir, will this be credit or Debit

Gotta be debit, he has no credit. :D

If this "war tax" is passed, it'll never go away, whether we're at war or not. Just another excuse to tax us even more.

This isn't the first time that a "war tax" has been imposed on the American people. Back in 1898, a "luxury" tax was passed on long-distance phone calls. The tax was imposed to help pay for the Spanish-American War. It was designed as a tax on wealthy Americans, back when phone service was considered a luxury. Even though phones rapidly became more commonplace and not just a "luxury" item, the tax wasn't repealed until 2006, lasting 108 years.
