Just to close this out. I was able to nurse this problem by selecting OD on or off depending onthe kind of driving I was doing. Finally, I decided that it wasn't getting any better and maybe a little worse. So I took it into the dealer for a thorough review.

A bad (Transmission Control Module) TCM. It would lose communication to the transmission intermittently causing the transmission to shift in an out out OD, 5th, and 4th gear.

Module, screen, fluid and misc parts $1,500. Labor $500

Works fine now.
