Well, it's been a fast weekend! I got to find out how fast the Mustang will go coming down the mountain from Tahoe Friday night/Saturday morning... (130 mph) And before I start getting pelted about it, it was 3:30 in the A.M., and I was the only car around on a multilane freeway.

Then I took the new racing kart out to Prairie City on Saturday and to Blue Max out in Davis on Sunday. Man that thing is fun! Not quite as fast as the Mustang, but it sure is fun to drive! And it'll beat the hell outta ya!! Saturday the temps got to 90 degrees for the first time, and I'm in a hot racing suit! I'm gonna lose some weight here...

The Sport Trac's got a new job now... Race Kart Hauler! It's perfect with the flatbed trailer. Hauls all my stuff inside no problem!

Getting ready to head out for the first time...

Here I'm running with Bill, the owner of California Kart World, where I purchased my toy. He's running with me so I can get used to being in 'traffic', as I'm entering my first race next Sunday.

Yes, the back wheel's off the ground...

SST,

I don't know if I can or not. And that IS a big track! 4 1/2 miles! They probably have a shorter karting track, but maybe they do let the karts out on the big track... I have run at the 'Biggest Little Raceway in the World'... The Northern Nevada Karting Club's track north of Reno at Stead Field. That one's a 1/2 mile, as were the ones I ran yesterday & today. I'll be looking into places to go run around my 'neighborhood'... The track I ran today at Davis has been in constant operation since 1957, and it's a bumpy mutha... ouch says my lower back!

Tony,

Nice track! I like the fact that they have night racing! We need that here in the summer time. We want to start the ARL here... Afternoon Racing League! The hardest part about being entered in a race next weekend is the fact that I have to be AT THE TRACK by 8 am!!! I am not a daywalker! Night racing would be perfect for me!!!

Whats the suit layer requirements for karting? I'd imagine at least 2, but don't see a need for a 3-layer since you'll be thrown free and not really run the risk of catching on fire...

Looks like fun though, I wouldn't mind getting into karting....drift karting.

Tiger,

Regs call for an 'abrasive resistant' material. I don't need fire protection. Nomex is NOT abrasive resistant. It's a heavy 2 layer suit. Cotton on the inside, and some heavy arse stuff on the outside, for those times when you make contact with the track...

And as far as 'drift karting', I was doing that yesterday. Just run your tires down... Hard part is getting used to the 'marbles' coming off the tires and flying at your face and keeping from 'flinching'... Normally, you would power slide through the corners, though.

As Bill said, "There's an art to running crappy tires" I bought 2 sets of tires and a spare set of wheels this week, so I've got 'sticker' tires for the race.

Ah, see, now that makes sense.

A guy I used to work with, his two kids karted, but mostly dirt. He had a large trailer like in the background of that second pic (paint your trailer!). It looks like it'd be fun, no doubt.

I can feel you on the hot car though...my 240 will be dark grey, with a black interior (stripped...no insulation or a/c) and I'll be wearing a 3-piece Nomex suit. Cool shirt? Maybe...

Hey!

Don't be dissin' my trailer! It's an old flatbed, and it'll get me through for this season. An enclosed trailer will cost me close to $4k, so I'll 'get by' with this one for now. As far as painting it goes, that's a quality paint job by my meth addict brother, who went to school to learn how to paint... I'd say he does it for a living, but he don't work, so... (Good thing too, because he doesn't do very good work.)

The trailer next to mine is Bill's, and he's got the setup!!! He's got A/C in it, and all the parts you'd need... That's what he does, as he owns Kart World!

Yeah, I looked at some prices for an enclosed to haul the 240 around...good lord. All I'd want is enough room for the car, a tool box, and some spares, but that's not cheap.

Krash, lemme borrow some money....
