My workplace is about 18 miles from my house. With todays gas prices, I'm spending just under $6 a day to get to work and back. Thank goodness I don't travel on any toll roads.
School is about 4 miles away, and I take the back way in, so very little traffic. I usually go twice (morning and afternoon classes), so I guess it's costing me around $2.50 a day. I just filled up for the first time last night in over 4 weeks. Nice feeling, even though it was $50.
It's almost 8 miles one way with with about 15 mpg. Thats 1 gallon per day, or 5 gallons per week @ $2.70/gallon. That's still cheap. Less than $3/day, $15/week.
However, I do a lot more driving than just back and forth to work (lunches, errands, weekend drivings). I fillup every 1.5 weeks, on average, for around $50/fillup. That averages about $5/day, day in and day out. Still cheap!
21.00 wk for DW in the ST. 30.00 for me in the Sable. This is just to go to work, no where else.
Before moving to VA, I lived on base in FL, I could fill the ST up once a month, and DW drove the Sable, cost her about 20.00 a week. Soooo, our gas expenses have gone up about 100.00 a month.
I burn 1/2 gallon going each way to and from work. That is 1 gallon total. Costs me $2.50. If all I did was drive to and from work, it would last me two weeks.
On the otherhand, if I were to drive me Escort GT to work, I would burn about half of that. $1.25/day. To drive home without being blinded from headlights and the comfort of the Trac, I will gladly pay the price difference. Heck, if it was $5.00/day I would still do it.
My round trip is about 25 miles, and I use a toll road. But, that only cost 45 cents each way and saves me a lot more in wear and tear and fuel for my Toyota.
